My Atlanta Recommendations

Okay, I didn’t really travel to Atlanta. I lived there for 4 and a bit years. But maybe this post will come in handy for anyone traveling to the Atl or thinking about it.

Thing to do in the Atl:

1. The Zoo

(Blonde and lovin’ pandas. Seriously though guys. Its a borderline obsession.)

2. Stone Mountain (aka Confederate Mount Rushmore. The 4th of July Laser show? A must)
3. World of Coke
4. The CNN Building and Olympic Park
5. The Georgia Aquarium
6. The Cyclorama (This is probably only on my list. But the Cyclorama cracks me up every single time.)
7. Little 5 Points
8. Go to the Sweetwater brewery
9. See a show at the Fox

10. Piedmont Park

11. Atlanta Botanical Gardens

(Cocktails in the Garden. Summer 2010.
This is a seriously fabulous summertime event. Anyone in the Atl should get tickets.)

12. Oakland Cemetery
13. The Michael C Carlos Museum
14. Turner Field
15. See a show at Georgia Shakespeare
16. Jimmy Carter Center
17. See a show at the Alliance
18. Six Flags over Georgia
19. For shopping there’s: Lenox, Phipps and Atlantic Station
20. The Starlight 6 Drive In (Double features!!!!) in the summer. (People bring grills, coolers etc. It’s awesome.)

My favorite Atlanta Eats:

Empire State South– Modern Southern. Port tasting dish, get in my belly now!
Rosebud- They only use local food. And make/infuse their own cocktails. They used to have my favorite brunch it Atlanta. It was this breakfast concoction/sandwich called the “Grasshopper” with like a pound of pimiento cheese. Oh my lawd. It is heavenly.
Alon’s- amazing French take-away cafe
Vortex- Okay some people go here just to watch people eat the quadruple bypass (look it up) but I legitimately love the burgers. (The Ragin’ Cajun is my ole standard.)
The Brick Store– Besides the fact that I always get chicken and pretzels here they pretty much have, hands down, the best beer selection in Atlanta. Or the South eve. There’s this Belgian beer that tastes EXACTLY like a cherry coke.
Sublime Doughnuts– Damn good doughnuts. Duh.
Woodfire Grill- Does anyone remember Kevin from Top Chef? Yea, this is his fabulous restaurant. Probably leave the vegetarians amongst you at home.
Leon’s Full Service– Gastropub with the best fries ever and cocktails that you could drink till the end of time.
Pura Vida- Delicious tapas
Bistro Niko- Modern french. I also end up literally wanting to eat everything here.

Yoforia- My favorite Fro-yo place. There is no argument.
Flying Biscuit- Crazy good brunch and some of the best grits.
Antico– Excellent, excellent pizza.
Mary Mac’s Tea Room – Southern food the way a grandma would make it. Basically perfect for non-Southerners to get a crash course in Southern food.
FLIP Burger- Come on, who doesn’t want a liquid nitrogen milkshake?
The Varsity- An Atlanta classic. The food’s not good, but it is dirt cheap and you go there to say you went there, really.

Okay, as I was thinking about Atlanta, I realized that it has some of the best eats of anywhere that I’ve lived. I’m sure I’m going to get some major flack for this but, I have had on average much better culinary experiences in Atlanta than even London. So there. Atlanta, you are my culinary spirit animal.

Actually, I just love most things about Atlanta.
