Happy Boxing Day!

From our home to yours, I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas. And today I’d like to wish everyone a happy Boxing Day! Before I moved to England “Boxing Day” was new to me, though I know it’s not to any readers from the UK, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and South Africa (apologies if I forgot any others!)

But for those readers, who like me, didn’t know what Boxing Day was, it is a bank holiday the day following Christmas when servants and tradesmen would traditionally receive gifts from their employers known as a “Christmas Box”.

So happy Boxing Day everyone!

It’s odd for me going from the UK who get’s big into the Boxing Day lark to the US were it’s pretty non existent, Christmas is over in a day and the husband is back at work!

Hope you had a lovely Christmas (and Boxing day)!

    • The UK really has the right idea- I think it’s cruel to go back to work on the 26th! I had a wonderful day thank you- I hope you did as well! x

  • Ahhh yes, Boxing Day. My Auntie says it’s called Boxing Day because she boxes up her tree, ornaments and all of her decorations the day after Christmas! Crazy lady. Yes Boxing Day is the day that I like to avoid the mall at all costs. (Rob loves going shopping today because of all of the sales.. Him and Alina are there right now!)

    • Oooh did he get any goodies yesterday? I miss mall sales… (I mean there are two malls in London, but it’s just not the same.) Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!!!! x

I never knew that was why we called it Boxing Day – I thought it was something to do with the church collection box. Hope you guys had an awesome few days of celebration.

  • That sounds like something I would have thought when I was little as well! I hope you had a lovely holiday! xx

  • In the North, we still refer to all the gifts we give to people as their “Christmas box”. Hope you had a fabulous Christmas!
