A Very Merry Christmas 2013 Recap

Happy last day of December, readers! Sam and I spent this Christmas together, just the two of us. It was the first time we had ever done so, and to be honest, I was really worried. Christmas is Sam’s birthday (as you now know) and I was worried that with just the two of us it wouldn’t be special enough. But I needn’t have feared because the day turned out gloriously!

On Christmas eve we watched films, drank bubbles and I gave Sam some birthday red velvet cupcakes and then at midnight we each opened a gift. I had so much energy and excitement for the next day that I had trouble going to bed- I am perpetually 7 years old!
We woke up bright and early on Christmas morning, opened gifts, drank mimosas ate bagels, finished reading the 3rd Harry Potter book to each other and then went out for a lovely Christmas walk around the neighbourhood.

After our walk, we spoke to Sam’s family and then started cooking! Then we sat down for our delicious meal. It was, in a word, a feast!

Sam was very excited for our dinner!
On our very first date, long ago, I explained the concept of being “iced” to Sam. He found it equal parts disgusting and hilarious. Every since then, over the years, I have occasionally iced him. How a Smirnoff ice made it’s way into his Christmas stocking I’ll never know……

I got a little too excited about our post-dinner party poppers.

Yes, we did shoot these at each other throughout the day…
We Skyped with my family, drank more, ate more and watched some lovely Christmas films before going to bed. Then we woke up on Boxing Day and did the same again!

  • I love seeing how others do holidays for just two as that is what we are always doing!

    • Hurray for twosomes! It was the first year we did it this way, we usually go to Sam’s family’s place. But honestly- we loved it! x

  • looks like you had a lovely holiday! I love your tiny tree, and I think it’s hilarious that you iced your guy via stocking πŸ™‚

    • HA, thanks! It’s immature but since it’s a long-standing joke between us, I figured it’d be okay πŸ™‚ x

  • Mrs. Collier

    Lovely holiday indeed!!

  • I hope you and Sam had a wonderful Christmas/Birthday! It sounds and looks like y’all had a ton of fun–my heart basically melted when I saw that you guys read Harry Potter books to each other. Like, seriously, too cute.

    • Thanks you so much! It looked like you had a lovely Christmas too! Haha. Sometimes he gets a bit carried away with the voices (because he’s never seen the films or read the books before) and it irks me somewhat and I have to go- “No- Dean is NOT Irish!” etc. We are halfway through Goblet of Fire right now, which is my favourite. x

  • This sounds so perfect and I love how happy you both look. I also love your apartment (from what I can see in the pictures). It looks so nice!!

The picture of you and Sam together; did you actually ask someone to take a picture of the two of you??

I have no idea what “iced” is…

    • Yes- I asked someone to take a picture! Shocking, right? First time for everything….

Thank you for the compliment about the apartment! We are still missing some furniture bits and bobs- I’ve tried to upcycle aka get things for free from freecycle- for most things so we aren’t done yet, but I’ll do a post when we are done.

So iced is when you trick someone into drinking a Smirnoff Ice by hiding it in their bag etc (or presenting in the smirnoff in a clever way) The “iced” person then has to drink it whilst on one knee immediately, no matter the situation or where you are. Ideally you drink it down in one. x

      • You’ve totally blogged about this before, haven’t you? Opps. Sorry!

  • Looks like a perfect birthday and Christmas. Sometimes those quiet Christmas’ are the most precious… One day you’ll think back to these quiet ones and sigh.. thinking; life was so chill back then..!

  • I love it! All these pictures are SO cute, and I’m definitely lusting after your winter coat. I’m glad y’all had a wonderful Christmas and birthday together!

    • Thank you so much! As much as I love being around family for the Holidays, I ended up loving being alone and helping solidify our own traditions. Plus two person charades ended up being hilarious. The coat was a present from my Mom last Christmas. It’s from ModCloth and it may still be in stock! x

I love that Smirnoff made a Christmas/birthday appearance! Looks like a lot of fun πŸ™‚

We finished Prisoner of Azkaban on Christmas Day and have safely moved into Goblet of Fire. I have been dying to go on the Harry Potter Studio tour here in London for almost a year, but I want to wait until Sam’s caught up because shockingly he has never encountered a single HP spoiler! x
