Pull-Apart Pizza Bread

Whilst I am lounging in some post-birthday bliss take a look at today’s recipe! The only thing that could make pizza more delicious, in my humble opinion is to add more bread. And luckily that’s easily accomplished. Even better, it’s as easy to make as it is delicious!

(Adapted from Creme de la Crumb)
1 round boule or oval loaf with a firm crust
1 cup of shredded mozzarella
1/4 cup of pepperoni slices cut in half
1/4 cup of butter
1 teaspoon of thyme
1/2 teaspoon of oregon
1/2 teaspoon of basil
1/4 cup of butter
marinara sauce for dipping
Preheat your oven to 400 F. Use a bread knife to score the bread deeply, but don’t cut all the way through. You should have a checkerboard pattern of 1″ chunks. Gently stuff the mozzarella into all the spaces in the bread (as deeply down as you can get it). Then insert the pepperoni slices.
In a small saucepan melt the butter and whisk in the herbs. Brush (or lightly pour) the mixture all over the bread. Wrap the bread in foil and bake for 15-20 minutes.
This bread is best served warm, in my opinion!

I’d be happy if I could always have this permanently in the oven!

  • I saw this bread on pinterest a couple years ago! I made one similar with green onions and cheese…so YUM! I’d love to try it like this ‘pizza style’!

    • Ohh green onions and cheese would be a delicious variety! I read your comment first as “green leaves and goats cheese” which would also be good. (I guess that’s what happens when you respond to comments when you’re tired!) xx

  • Whuuuut. This thing is crazy-awesome-ridiculous! You make the best treats.

    • It’s all things bad and delicious for you at the same time (cheese, butter, bread….mmmmm….) Thank you! xx

      • By the way, wanted to share that I DID make this a few weeks ago and it solved all of my pizza-making inabilities and worked out GREAT. Forget trying to roll out dough, I’m just going to do this from now on.

The only thing I’d recommend is telling people to cut down as closely as humanly possible down to the crust, maybe even perforate it a bit. We had a hard time actually pulling it apart. The soft bread just tore off and all that lovely delicious cheese stayed behind on the bottom!

        • Thanks! That’s a really good tip to share! (Especially if you use a thicker crusted bread.) xx

  • Yum! I’ve seen similar recipes to this on pinterest and always wondered if they actually turn out as good as they look! I am loving all of your recipes lately!

    • I can attest that this one is delicious. I adapted the recipe a bit from the original link (you can see it above.) Thank you very much! xx

  • I wish you had taken a picture of you pulling the pieces off of the loaf.. I NEEDED to see the gooey, cheesy goodness. Then I also needed to see gremlin’s greedy smile just before devouring the entire thing! lol- I kind of want to make this tonight. I hear Marinara sauce is suuuuuper easy to make too.

    • If Sam had been here when it came out of the oven I would have insured that a picture of me stuffing my face was taken. But he was at a show, instead I cruelly texted him a photo of it saying I’d just finished it all off by myself…. it’s a testament to how much I love him that I secretly saved him loads πŸ™‚ xx

  • So this looks amazing! I will definitely have to try this out someday…but the other thing I love…that cutting board. Weird, but I love kitchen things. xx

    • Alas, I wish I could take sole credit for it, but it was a Christmas present to Sam from his family the year before last. All the little gadgets in it, in the drawer that slides out are all different types of cheese utensils (special cheese knives, etc). x

  • Feeling like I’m in a bit of a recipe rut recently so this should go down a treat this weekend…looks delicious! πŸ™‚
