5 Things that Made me Happy This Week

Another winter week come and gone! And I’m fairly thankful to see some tiny changes in terms of daylight. There was still a little bit of sun peaking round the corner at quarter to 5 and it gave me some hope that there will soon be daylight when I am finished with work.

5 Things That Made Me Happy This Week

weekly recap 3
(Top Left- Flowers outside Liberty of London. Top Right- Ducks in Kensington Gardens. Botton Left- Kensington Gardens. Bottom Right- Drinks at the M&Co summer preview.)

1. Being an aunt is the best! And on Wednesday eve I got to snuggle my adorable little nephew, who is under 6 months old so he is teeny tiny and oh-so-precious.

2. I attended an exciting Summer Preview event for M&Co. I received a manicure at the event, and there are few things I love more than having nicely polished nails.

3. Sam and I had been binge watching the comedy Him & Her, which was incredibly watchable, although sometimes disgusting. I was on tenterhooks for the entire last season (only 5 episodes) because the anxiety level in it is so high.

4. I got to spend a very traditionally British week: I got to lead a work trip to see the Changing of the Guard and then I had a chance to explore Kensington Palace and it was incredible. I’ll be doing a post on it soon, but I loved it.

5.  I bought my first daffodils of the season. I love having flowers around the home, and since daffodil bundles are only £1, I don’t feel guilty about it.

Something I’m looking forward to next week? I’m getting to eat at some pretty exciting restaurants next week and I can’t wait to share it with you!

What made you happy this week?

  • Auntie cuddles are THE best!!

  • I bought my first daffs this week too! They’re so wonderfully bright and cheery. It is always lovely to get a manicure – you’ve reminded me I *really* need to do my nails! xxx

  • Daffodils are out and about. I must pick some up over the weekend. Kensington Gardens looks lovely xx

  • Ok I am going to check out Him & Her I always see it on Netflix and I love Russell Tovey anyways so this is the push I needed!

  • I saw the Changing of the Guard last summer (but still haven’t posted about it for some reason…), and it was one of my favorite things I’ve done in London yet. Haven’t seen Kensington Palace yet, though, so I’m looking forward to your post on it!

    • I imagine it was a completely different experience in the summer! (Sort of) The saving grace of going mid-Jan was that there weren’t quite as many people as there usually are which meant we had a pretty good view! x

  • Baby snuggles are pretty great:) All this tasty food sounds like it is going to be another great week!

  • Ala

Oh I love having nice nails – I’ve never actually like been to have mine done but I like spending time over doing them myself! I’m going to do that this weekend woop! x

    • I’m really cheap so I hardly ever get real manicures (the last one I had was 2 years ago when I was a bridesmaid in a wedding)- so it was a super treat! And it looks way better than when I do it. Oops! x

  • I love daffodils!

I wil probably never be an aunt. My brother & sister both hate babies and Jan’s sister doesn’t want kids either. That only leaves my 8-year-old brother…

  • Love this idea. Do you mind if I steal it? 😀 It’s so positive. Yes, it’s been a happy week. Finally published a book and my mom got her Thai citizenship. And my company is paying me to go to a conference – yeaaa!

    • Wow! Congratulations! That’s amazing on both counts!!!! Of course you can use this idea! Lots of other bloggers do it, so there’s no way I would ever claim ownership 🙂 xx

  • I bought some really great books (already started one and love it), have started eating healthier, and I am one day closer to going flat-hunting — all happy-making things 🙂 As always, I’m looking forward to your food posts next week so I can add to my “To Try” list!

Sounds like you had a beautiful week and snuggles with a baby are always a bonus. It seems the Spring flowers will be blooming extra early this year, we already have some sprouting around here.

    • Definitely! It’s been truly a lovely week and I’d really appreciated it. I hope you had a good one as well! xx

  • Can’t wait to read about your visit to the palace!

  • SO excited! They just make life more cheerful, right?! x

  • Oh yay I can’t wait to by some daffodils (and maybe tulips too!)

  • Oh how I love freshly manicured nails. That is definitely the sort of thing that makes me happy 🙂

  • Ana Valentin

Daffodils are quite lovely and I love fresh flowers in my room as well. I made it goal that when I have a place all my own I’d like to keep fresh flowers stocked, and have a garden as well. Babies are the cutest and I’m the oldest so no nephews yet until Ritch’s siblings decide to have children haha. Glad you had a great week!

  • Agreed! xx

  • Amy @ the tide that left

Sounds like a good week. I love having flowers in the house too. Daffs are a good choice.
I’ve seen a couple of episodes of Him & Her – it’s pretty good.

    • I didn’t love Him & Her at first, but then after awhile I really got hooked and wanted to see how all the character storylines were going to develop! xx

  • I have never even heard of Him & Her, I think I need to investigate. Have a great weekend x

    • It’s quite gross at times, but it’s also a reasonably realistic look at intimate relations at others 🙂 xx

  • amitygardens

So I haven’t watched Him & Her because the Netflix summary is so vague that it didn’t interest me. I guess I’m going to have to watch it now. 😛

    • The summary is crap! I didn’t even like it that much at first, but then I got hooked on some of the character developments. And there’s a huge twist is one of the character plot-lines! x

  • Sounds like a lovely week 🙂 I love daffodils too – there colour and cheerfulness just make me happy! I hope you have a great weekend! I can’t wait to hear about these restaurants you’ll be eating at next week! Xo

  • I’m jealous that y’all have daffodils already! Fresh flowers def get rid of the winter blues.

  • Ok, if the daffs are already out it is no longer winter and I can begin rejoycing. Week: won!!

  • Your week sounds lovely! I could definitely use a fresh manicure. My last one was for Christmas.

    • Haha, I never get manicures so it was amazing! (My last one was in Atlanta is 2013 when I came over to be a bridesmaid for a sorority sister.) Also it’s been almost one year since I’ve had a haircut. I fail at all things beauty related. x

  • That event sounds really fun and fresh flowers always make me happy too!

    Sounds like a great week!
I just realized I really need a manicure, my hands look a mess.
And I thinks I should buy flowers more often…daffodils are so uplifting and pretty!

  • dannifred

cute idea for a post, your photos are really nice 🙂

  • These pics bring back so many amazing memories! Especially, the pics of Kensington Gardens…I miss it so much. I need to go back ASAP.

  • I think I saw the trailer for Him & Her, not sure it’s my type of comedy but I think the bf might like it. But, we’ve already got a ever growing list of things we want to watch haha!

    • I wasn’t sure I was going to like it- even after the first few episodes, but then I got hooked on the characters! x

  • Anna Fantastica

You’ve inspired me to buy flowers for myself today. I’m always tempted to, but rarely do it. Now the question is: what kind of flowers can I find in Budapest?

  • it’s been so long since the last time i visited your blog, i’m the worst! your posts hadn’t been uploading on my bloglovin’ or gfc and every time i thought i should check out amanda’s blog i forgot it before actually doing it.. haha, i’m the worst, but think i’ve fixed it now:-) sounds like you’ve been having a wonderful week! and i wish i actually bought flowers, yet another thing i think about and then forget.. xx

    • I wonder if it was something I did programming wise….hmmm… well I’m very glad to have you back! xx

  • The light is soooo needed! I couldn’t believe it was still a little bit light out at 5pm today…yay!!! So looking forward to more sunlight and daffodils 🙂

  • I so miss when the first daffs come out in the stores and then obsessively buying them, whilst pretending it is spring! We don’t have that here sadly. I am loving the extra light we also have been having here in Canada too!

  • How lovely Amanda! What made me happy this week was spending a couple of hours with my dear girlfriend (also my Pilates teacher) drinking a cocktail by an outdoor fire pit on Friday evening. We had just completed a detox and were very proud of ourselves, managing not to blow all our efforts with one drink! Then I spent a wonderful weekend in San Francisco with best friends who have moved here from London for a year. They have a stunning apartment with views of the Bay, we filled it with ‘IKEA treasures’ and toured this beautiful city I love so much under sun drenched skies and unseasonably warm temps, heaven, old friends are the best, happy times!!

  • YES to the longer sunlight hours! I can’t wait until we can go out to dinner and it is not pitch black 🙂 Pretty flowers!

  • Rebecca Dobson

Ha, I binged Him & Her too! So addictive, even if some of the characters (cough, Laura, cough) are so excruciatingly cringeworthy!

    • Laura has to be one of the top telly “villains” ever. I wanted to shake her half the time. Especially when she kept throwing the ring out! xx
