Overnight Brownie Batter Porridge

For the longest time, I was a porridge avoider. I thought it was tasteless and it reminded me of the gruel “Oliver Twist” begs for. But Sam has shown me the error of my porridge snob ways, and convinced me that it doesn’t taste like tasteless mush. So now we’ve tried to be a bit more creative with it.

This recipe is great because in less than 5 minutes, you can whip it up the night before, pop it in the fridge and have breakfast ready for yourself as soon as you wake up!

How do you like your porridge? And how do you feel about the idea of cold porridge? Or are you like I was, and avoid porridge?

  • This sounds right up my alley – in fact it might even get me out of bed earlier in the mornings!

  • This looks delicious! I also didn’t like porridge for ages, but have really come around to it now. It’s great to make and overnight one like that – I like to do muesli in the same way, so breakfast is always ready when I wake up! xxx

  • This looks rather delicious. I don’t mind porridge but i just never seem to get around to making it!

    • Thanks Sarah! Maybe cold porridge done in at the fridge is the right kind of porridge for you then! xx

  • I love porridge! But I tend to just have sachets that I pour milk in and microwave at work, although I always keep telling myself I am gonna start experimenting a bit more like this!

  • This looks so good. I love porridge, but this brownie batter version seems to be taking it to the next level. Must try this. Thanks 😀 x

  • I have porridge basically every morning, I love it. In the summer I am a big fan of overnight oats, but I have yet to try a chocolate version, I think I need to change that!

    ooooh looks amazing!

  • Ummm this looks absolutely mouth-wateringly amazing!! I love porridge, always did as a kid too, and my favourite way back in the day was to have it with a little milk and sugar. Nowadays I love it with cooked apple and cinnamon. She yummy on a cold winters day. I’m so intrigued to try this recipe though. Yum! Also, how do you get your recipes to be printable? That’s such a lovely touch! Xo

    • Oho cooked apple and cinnamon sounds divine. In terms of printing recipes, I’ve been using a wordpress plug-in called “recipe card” by yumprint xx

  • Ala

A breakfast that looks like a pudding… a winner in my book! Looks delicious, fab photos too! x

    • I mean, basically I am eating pudding for breakfast… but it also tastes kind of healthy? And thanks lovely! xx

  • Yummmy! I think I will need to try this once I move and start eating breakfast at home. We don’t have a microwave though, so cold porridge it is!

    • We don’t have a microwave either, but we both work in places that have them, so we sneakily use them sometimes 😉 But most of the time, I just have mine cold! x

      • You have to sneakily use the microwave at work? My work has one for employees to use – mostly we heat up our lunches in it.

        • I guess sneaky was a poor run of phrase – get to work early to use it for breakfast would have been more apt. x

  • Chocolate for breakfast? You are just a frigging goddess who should be carried everywhere on a sedan chair. I need to try this x

    • Viva chocolate for breakfast! The more time I can spend eating it’s deliciousness, the better the day is. If the world is truly running out of chocolate, than it’s a world I don’t want to live in. xx

  • WOw!! This recipe is awesome!! Your oatmeal looks very delicious. The way you decorate the brownie batter porridge makes it more attractive and easy to eat. The porridge in your country is made from oats, but the porridge in my country is made from rice, water and pork. We often eat the pork porridge when we are sick.

  • This looks delicous, just working out how I can make it vegan, I’m thinking using cocconut milk instead of yoghurt, to give it that creaminess!

  • Oh, yummy! Looks like chocolatey goodness. I’m a new food blogger and found you on a link party. I’ve
followed your social sites and hope we can connect on those. Can’t wait to read
    more of your blog. Becky

  • That looks so good! Definitely going to have to give that one a try! x

  • Bronwyn Pearson McConvey

I just made some! I hope mine turn out as well as yours look!!

  • I don’t think I’ve ever tried porridge, seems easy to make, ill try it once I have all the necessary ingredients.

    • Porridge definitely isn’t something that I liked right away so you’ll have to let me know what you think of it! x

  • My mom swears by the sachets. She doesn’t see why I’d bother to do it any other way! She as one that is cinnamon and honey flavoured that is brilliant! x

    • They are a lot more expensive but if it’s a difference of you not eating porridge or eating porridge then it is worth it! Weetabix and banana is good for filling you up too.

  • I love porridge! I also love singing “food, glorious food” in my head when I eat it. I do find it quite heavy though, and can’t really eat it for breakfast. But I started substituting some of the milk with water and it’s far less heavy and makes a nice breakfast warmer 🙂 Topped with some raspberries and honey (or golden syrup when I’m feeling rebellious!)… maybe a little spoonful for Nutella too 🙂

These do sound quite tasty! I might even have everything to make this!

    • Ohhh….regular porridge with a spoonful of nutella (and maybe some raspberries….) Delightful! x

  • Kendra Darr

This looks like chocolate-y goodness! Thanks for sharing on Best of the Blogosphere!

  • Akaleistar

    The porridge looks amazing!

  • I love overnight oats! They’re my go-to thing right now. I’ve not tried chocolate ones yet though – I bought vanilla almond milk today to try with it.
