Clevedon Pier

If you’ve ever ventured slightly west of Bristol then you might have made it as far as Clevedon. Which means you’ve probably seen Clevedon Pier, otherwise known as what the town is most famous for since the Victorian era. John Betjeman, one of my favourite UK Poet Laureates described Clevedon Pier as “the most beautiful in England.” As a sidetone, go read Betjeman’s  poem “Slough” then come back. Thanks. Brilliant, right?

The pier protrudes into the Severn Estuary, which is what separates Southwest England from Wales. In fact, on a clear day you can see Cardiff.  I find Clevedon so peaceful and relaxing. Even though it was early March, there were moments when the sun was shining brightly and extra layers could be temporarily slipped off to get some much needed Vitamin D.

The pier has been catapulted into the present day due to it’s use as a filming location for “Never Let Me Go” and a One Direction music video. I’ll let you decide for yourself which one was more popular.

  • It looks lovely. I’ve never been to Clevedon OR Bristol!

Obviously my favourite seaside town has to be Seahouses even if it’s not really πŸ˜‰

  • Lovely pictures! I’ve never been to Clevedon, but we saw Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-Super-Mare last year. I find english seaside towns very nostalgic, there’s this atmosphere that you can’t find anywhere else. It shows even in your photos! It’s lovely.

    • Weston-super-Mare is just a few miles away from Clevedon – we’ve been there as well. It is a really unique atmosphere, isn’t it? x

  • I’ve made it my mission to to see more of the UK, rather than just sitting around in London all the time. Anywhere near the sea is a good place to start, and this pier is so beautiful x

  • Such a cool location – love the first & last photos!

  • Gorgeous pictures! I love the green of the pier, as I find sometimes they just look a bit dull. My favourite pier would have to be in Brighton because well, Brighton is great! πŸ™‚

  • I loveee Clevedon Pier. The only times I’ve ever been though it’s been cloudy!

    • Such a shame! I guess you spent most of your time in the UK just right down the road though so you must be super familiar with the area! x

  • They are so fragile in a way, aren’t they? I feel similarly about lighthouses! x
