Clevedon Pier

If you’ve ever ventured slightly west of Bristol then you might have made it as far as Clevedon. Which means you’ve probably seen Clevedon Pier, otherwise known as what the town is most famous for since the Victorian era. John Betjeman, one of my favourite UK Poet Laureates described Clevedon Pier as “the most beautiful in England.” As a sidetone, go read Betjeman’s  poem “Slough” then come back. Thanks. Brilliant, right?

The pier protrudes into the Severn Estuary, which is what separates Southwest England from Wales. In fact, on a clear day you can see Cardiff.  I find Clevedon so peaceful and relaxing. Even though it was early March, there were moments when the sun was shining brightly and extra layers could be temporarily slipped off to get some much needed Vitamin D.

The pier has been catapulted into the present day due to it’s use as a filming location for “Never Let Me Go” and a One Direction music video. I’ll let you decide for yourself which one was more popular.
