Life Lately || Happy Things

This week I had many thing to be happy about. Here’s to next week and hopefully some warmer weather!
happy things
We went on an incredible day trip to Stratford-upon-Avon to look at a wedding venue. Did it pan out? Probably not, but it was a great day nonetheless that I’ll write about in detail later, and it was nice to be back in our old stomping ground.

We had a lovely Mother’s Day meal with Sam’s mom, brother and some family friends last weekend.

Seeing “50 Shades of Grey”. It was dreadful. Truly. However, I found myself charmed by Dakota Johnson and it was worth it so see Sam’s shock. At one point he whispered “change the soundtrack and this would be a film about a serial killer.” Several people left in the middle and the girls behind us were complaining about how weirdly toned and awkward the film was.

I’ve been hoarding a Christmas gift card from my godfather and I finally spent it this week. I reordered my favourite Nars blush.

I got to go to Hampton Court Palace for work. It was lovely, as always!

I tried my first Maid of Honour, the pastry pictured above in the top right. It was delicious, and tasted like a blend of a custard tart and a creme brรปlรฉe. But more importantly, they were one of Henry VIII’s favourite treats so it was cool to get to try one.

Crossing a task off my to-do list that I was really dreading. I’d been putting it off for weeks and I finally ripped off the bandaid.

The waffle pictured above in the bottom right. It was like getting an intravenous injection of sugar but it was totally worth the crash later.

What are your plans for the weekend?

  • I’ve seen 50 shades too and I guess it’s just an okay movie

    • I did think that Dakota Johnson brought some humour to Anastasia Steele which was easily the best part! x

  • Hampton Court is one of my fav places i visited while I was in England and that waffle looks absolutely delicious and worth the sugar crash!

  • Sounds like you’ve had a great week! Will keep my fingers crossed for your over the wedding venue! xxx

In relation to carrying out tasks that you don’t want to my English A-Level teacher always used to say ‘kiss the ugly frog first’ and I always remember that when doing something I don’t want to do haha. Love those flowers too! Have a fab weekend xxx

    • Hahaha. I love that! I’m going to remember it for the future! Have a fab weekend yourself! x

  • that ‘maid of honour’ certainly sounds heavenly! yummy!

off to paris this weekend, you will be missed! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • It sounds like you’ve had a great week! Sam’s reaction to that horrid movie based on that horrid book is hilarious. And true. Seriously, I don’t need to read the book or see the film to know it has major consent issues (thanks to the feminist reviews I’ve read).

    Those flowers are sooooo beautiful!

    • He was so right too! Especially in this scene where Christian Grey just suddenly appears behind her at work (and she’s never told him where she works) STALKER alert! x

  • those maids of honour sound like a dream! I love custard tart AND creme brulee ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Honestly not bothered about seeing fifty shades of grey, heard the book was horribly written (I can’t get through a poorly written book) and that the movie wasn’t much either. I’ll save my pennies. Good luck finding a venue! I’m sure it can be super tricky to get everything to come together.

    • They are so badly written and the move was terrible too. Except that the conversation on the movie was so wooden that people were laughing aloud in serious moments. So it was almost like an unintended parody of itself! X

  • MAID OF HONOUR IN MAH BELLEH PLEASE. And thank you <3

    • Done. Let’s go frolic down Hampton court ways together one day and eat at least ten. Each x

  • Ooh I look forward to the venue blog post – still looking then? Be sure to tell me if North Wales is an option I can send you some ideas! As for 50 Shades of Grey – just as dire as the books then?? Have a great weekend! I shall be dressing wedding venues! Lol!

    • Thanks so much for your offer- I might definitely be picking your brain in the future ๐Ÿ™‚ x

  • Stratford upon Avon is such a wonderful place!

    • Agreed- we lived there two years ago while Sam was at the RSC and it was such a lovely place to be! X

  • Oh yum, that waffle!
We’re having our leaving party tomorrow… among all the boxes! So I need to bake brownies and cake tonight plus do more packing. Then Sunday will be packing, packing, packing. The removals company are coming at 7 a.m. on Tuesday so everything that’s going now needs to be ready by Monday night. Then I get to spend a month living in a flat with next to no furniture!

  • Stratford is such a lovely place to visit. I used to go there as a kid and they had a ship which you could play in. Did you get to sneak around the maze at Hampton Court?

I’ve been in the New Forest for a few days so this weekend I plan on doing very little. I need to do some wedding planning – finding a photographer and designing stationary. I also want to bake some muffins or make some bread. I’m definitely in the baking mood after reading this post.

  • I really want to see 50shades of grey! I didn’t hate the books (nor did I like them but I dislike leaving books or series undone!) But I wasn’t really obsessed with the casting so I haven’t really tried to see it either.

  • I have not interest in 50 shades of anything be it grey or orange or even purple which is one of my favourite colours…………………just saying

  • Looking at your lately photos makes me feel happy. I especially love the waffle

  • That tart looks amazing! Love the flower photos too – hope you get more spring-like weather over there! The shorts made their first appearance of the year here on Saturday! xx

  • Beautiful flowers! Interesting name for a pastry… I could look it up, but I’ll just be lazy and ask you: why’s it called “Maid of Honour”?

    • Henry VIII was introduced to them by the Queen’s Maids who were eating them so he nicknamed the pastry after them and it just stuck! x

  • Those flowers are beautiful and that tart look yummy! x

  • Miu

The picture of the Maid of Honour (did I understand it correctly that that’s the name of it?) reminded me of Pasteis de Nata and now I want to bake them ๐Ÿ˜‰
