Life Lately || Ten Happy Things

Happy Friday everyone! How has your week been? I’m absolutely exhausted and looking forward to the weekend. And looking forward to Thanksgiving next week! Sam and I both have to work on Thursday, but we’ve managed to wrangle early finishes to start doing some meal prep.
1. I received a promotion at work. I’m extremely pleased about it, and I think that I can really embrace my new role come the New Year. I’m currently training for the position right now, as well as keeping up with my regular workload, blogging, wedding planning, and visa prep. My head’s a bit all over the place because I have so much going on at the moment.

2. I had a fabulous evening at the theatre on Wednesday. (You can read my post on “Wicked” from yesterday.)

3.  I attended the House of Fraser and the M&Co Spring/Summer 2016 press previews this week. I’ll save most of my thoughts on the collections for next week, when I write about them properly, but I enjoyed both. (Plus I got a nifty gel manicure at the M&Co event.)

4. Over the weekend, Frankie and my baby “Dinner with Marie Antoinette” was finally realised. I can’t thank the wonderful Katie and Sam more for all their hard work and wonderful acting. And if you didn’t catch it this time around, never fear – we are hoping to get it on the books again over the summer.

5. I ate literally all the Rainbow Chip cupcakes. And I don’t regret it for a single second. But then I ate salads for pretty much every meal for the rest of the week to make up for it.

6. I’ve nearly finished my Christmas shopping. It’s okay to be jealous.

7. The Christmas lights have gone up all over Central London and I love them. Even if you are packed into a miserably crowded Oxford Street section of sidewalk, looking at the twinkly lights overhead helps make everything better.

8. I treated myself to a Topshop blanket scarf this week. It’s the most cozy thing I’ve ever put on my body.

9. Has anyone else seen this bear sleeping bag? If not, go take a look at it. I need it in my life. If only I had a spare grand or so to spend on a sleeping bag…

10. Snow keeps appearing and disappearing in my iPhone app- I’d love a lovely dusting on Saturday morning!

I’m having a night out with friends tonight, and on Sunday I’m going to Oxford for work. What are your weekend plans?

    • Thanks Honey! I’m on a spouse/partner/civilpartner visa in the UK and if you applied after 2012 it’s only valid for 2 1/2ish years. But you need at least 5 to qualify for indefinite leave to remain in the UK, which means that everyone has to apply for the same visa twice in order to reach the 5 year mark. It’s just a ridiculous way for the government to get tons of money from immigrants really…. x

      • Oh wow I thought it was much easier for the partner visa! I had to deal with the same issue on my work visa and could’ve applied for settlement three years ago but they changed the law a month before I was eligible!!! I have my residency now, though and it was fairly easy. Good luck with yours, I’m sure you’ll get it xx

        • Thanks Honey! Fingers crossed it will be fine- I just have to present my entire life in paperwork πŸ˜‰ x

  • Woo congrats on the promotion! Super exciting, I know what you mean it can be so hectic when works gets busy. Mine is finally calming down and I feel like I can finally relax a bit! x

  • Marie Antoinette was fab. So excited for next year!

  • Congrats on your promotion, and wish I could see your Marie-Antoinette production… I am obsessed with all things MA related right now!
Mmmm those cupcakes looked amazing. As there is, of course, NO way I could ever find rainbow chip frosting here, I might have to give that one recipe you mentioned a go sometime.

    • The recipe is really great – not quite the same as store-bought but really delicious none the less. The play we used was one called MA by David Adjmi and it’s a really brilliant play! I highly recommend giving it a read. xx

Well done on the Christmas shopping!!

  • Dara

I was enjoying this post…until I got to the finished my Christmas shopping part. Then you became one of those perfectly organised people who make me want to cuddle up in a fab Top Shop blanket scarf and wallow in my own chaotic disorganization.

  • Congrats on the promotion! It’s always so great when you’re rewarded for being awesome! πŸ˜€ And yes, I’m totally jealous about the Christmas shopping. I’ve made most of my list–does that count!? πŸ™‚

    • The hardest part is figuring out what you want to get for people so I think that definitely counts! And thank you! πŸ˜‰ xx

  • yay yay promotion! congratulations!!

  • congrats on the promotion. and i looooove when london is all decorated for christmas – so pretty, even with all the craziness on oxford street. and yep – i haven’t even started christmas shopping oops!

  • You’re almost DONE with Christmas shopping? Yes, yes I’m very jealous.

  • Miu

    Congratulations on your promotion!
And yes, I’m a bit jealous for being done with Christmas shopping, because half of my family hasn’t even told me their wishes yet πŸ˜€

  • thegrownupgapyear.wordpress

Congrats on the promotion Amanda! And yes, I think we can all agree that we are very jealous that you’ve finished all of your Christmas shopping! How do you manage to fit everything in??

    • It’s only because I am a neurotic list maker! In the notes section of my iPhone, I keep a running list of present ideas throughout the whole year. It makes the process much more painless πŸ˜‰ (And thank you!) xx

  • Ala

Congratulations on your promotion you amazing lady! Literally just as I was clicking onto this post I was in awe at how much you have on your plate at the moment and how you still manage to keep Rhyme & Ribbons so up-to-date and current! And even though I’m currently sat in paradise, part of me still wants to feel the festive joy of christmas and the buzz of london at this time! Plus I also really want a freakin’ mince pie x

    • Thanks so much Ala! The key for me was writing in bulk and then queuing posts up. Not very spontaneous but it’s the only way I could manage both. So jealous of your adventure still!!!! xxxxx
