Having been in London since 2010, there was one London staple that so far I had managed to avoid: Mahiki. The London club is famous for being one of the old favourite haunts of Prince Harry and other celebrities like Rihanna, Paris Hilton and Lady Gaga. Even though the club has an egalitarian door policy, the promotions manager having been close friends with Princes William and Harry led to blue-blood popularity. I can only imagine how crazy the place was in the era of “Harry Hunters”; the days when the club was turning away 1000s every night due to over-crowding.
Because this isn’t necessarily my “scene” and I am loath to spend money on expensive cocktails, I’ve always opted for different options on nights out, despite the lure of people watching. However, when Debenhams invited me for a night out in London (#foundit), to celebrate the beginning of the holiday party season, there was no way that I was going to turn them down. The lure of the unknown was too strong.
Whilst the tacky Polynesian decor, made me smile and cringe in equal parts, I felt like that was what Mahiki was going for – a tongue-in-cheek take on a tropical paradise in London. And I’ll give them this, my drink was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can see how a night out could add up so quickly.
I think my favourite product that I got to see showcased through Debenhams was the spray on nail polish. Sign me up for it! I definitely want to try it out for myself. The lovely Emma, acquiesced to being my date for the evening and after oogling the makeup and fragrances on offer we headed out to have a spot to eat and a good gossip.
If you find your way to Mahiki, entrance pre 9:30pm is free, afterwards there’s an entrance fee. Also cocktails pre-9:30 pm are around £9 each, after 9:30 pm they go up to around £13.
