Christmas 2015 Recap

I’m sure by the end of tomorrow, every person who reads blogs will be sick of reading Christmas recaps, but I’m going to stick to my guns and write one, even if it’s just for myself. Sam and I had a wonderful time in Clevedon, and caught (a very slow) train back to London yesterday afternoon.

The house was filled up with guests so Sam and I stayed in a hotel around the corner and made the quick jaunt to the house every morning. (Except for on Boxing Day when we got up slightly early and went for a run before meeting everyone for lunch later that day.) We both were very keen to contribute to the holiday as much as possible so Sam and I were actually the ones that cooked Christmas dinner. There are no photos of it at all because we were so focused on first cooking, and later eating; but we did concoct a delicious joint of beef, along with sides of potatoes, parsnips, carrots, leeks and sprouts. Dessert was entirely down to me and after all the rich food I decided we’d finish off with an apple and cranberry crumble.

I love that when we spend Christmas with either side of Sam’s family that there are always kids around. Children just make Christmas a bit more magical. It was very exciting to witness the putting out of cookies and milk for Father Christmas (along with a carrot for the reindeer).  Sam had a lovely birthday day, filled with lovely food and free flowing bubbles. He was also invited to read the Christmas lesson at his step-mom and dad’s local church and the consummate public speaker, he lapped it up. Afterwards he had an elderly woman fan club who want him to come to read all the time.

I’ve been spoiled with gifts from family both near and far. (Though for some dreadful reason my mom’s parcel to us was sent by customs in London to Australia. Hopefully we will see it one day.) And my gifts in my late 20s are fairly similar to those I received when I was a youngster: for example, all the Potters on DVD, a Game of Thrones colouring book, and the absolutely gorgeous, illustrated copy of “The Philosopher’s Stone.”
