Life has been so crazy and busy lately, that I only had one desire for my birthday weekend: to finally have a chance to relax and decompress. And since it’s the last weekend that I had off with no work before our wedding, Sam and I knew that we wanted to spend some quality time together just chilling out. For the first time in ages, I felt like I was able to properly switch off / unplug and it felt wonderful.
I got everything I wished for and more. Sam found this amazing little cabin on the Thames, and its whole back door slid open, revealing a gorgeous porch and a waterside view. The cabin itself was idyllic and it was like I had decorated it in my dreams. We left London early Saturday morning and swung by Sainsbury’s to stock up on delicious food for the long weekend before sequestering ourselves away in our self-imposed isolation.
There was no TV so our time was filled with board games, reading, cooking together and long country walks. We even stumbled across a massive marina and had a gentle and innocent look around all the boats. (Leading Sam to proclaim, “Why don’t I have a boat?!”) The only thing that disappointed me was that Sam finished the weekend with a higher win rate than I had at Trivial Pursuit. We facetimed family on Sunday (my actual birthday) and had an all around wonderful time. We also were exceptionally lucky with the weather, especially seeing how rainy it is now! Saturday and Sunday were both lovely, with Monday being slightly cold and grey but dry at least!
Stumbling across this type of property is exactly what Airbnb excels at!
The water was absolutely freezing!
Rocking a true 90s look with mom jeans AND one of Sam’s shirts.
Directing the course of game playing.
Making Sunday mimosas
Thank you everyone for leaving me wonderful birthday messages. I greatly appreciated reading them!
What did you get up to on the weekend?
