10 Happy Things Lifestyle Wedding

Life lately || The Best Happy Things Ever

Happy Friday wonderful readers! I started responding to comments on my blog on Wednesday, but with today’s post I am officially back! Our week up North is over and I am back in London an elated and married woman. I have so very much to be happy about, and it makes this “happy things” post one of the easiest I’ve ever written.

I’ve mentioned a lot that I am getting married, but it’s been very wedding-planning light on this space. Mostly because I’m not an anonymous blogger and I wanted friends and family to be surprised when they turned up on Saturday and not feel like they’ve seen it all already. I’ll be putting up these posts next month when all our professional photos have been sent to us, so I won’t go into too many details yet and save them for later.

Thank goodness for all the photos friends and family took, so that I don’t have to wait weeks to see at least a few images. Our photographer, Neil, was fabulous and he sent us 3 taster photos (included here in this post) to get us excited for when the rest of them touch down in our inboxes. It’s also lucky that I left my wedding dress up in Yorkshire or I’d be sitting around in it as I type this – I adored wearing it!

>>> Let’s get the big one out of the way: Saturday was wonderful. Was it perfect? Of course not, no day is! But it was, without hesitation, the best day of my life. I can’t ever remember a time when I was happier, smiled more, or felt more loved. It made me wish that I could get married to Sam all the time. I can honestly say, that I’ve never felt more loved than I did last week and Saturday was filled with both tears and laughter.

>>>Having my family and friends in England was wonderful. To be honest, the past few days have been hard for me. After the absolute elation that was our wedding and seeing people that I only get to see once in a blue moon because they live in America, taking those same people back to airports and train stations, to not see them for god knows how long was hard. Really hard. But I have the most joyful memories of them being with me in England, and I’ll have those memories forever.

>>> In all the chaos around setting up the wedding, (we had a completely DIY wedding. We got married in a village hall so all furniture, decor and set up was up to us), we managed to squeeze in a day trip with friends out to Whitby so that they could see more of the Yorkshire coast. I’ll blog about that next week.

>>> On our Virgin train from London to York, the conductor noticed my wedding dress garment bag. (It was huge so I’d be surprised if he hadn’t noticed it.) Sam and I got to chatting about our wedding with him, and a few minutes later, he returned to our carriage with a bottle of bubbles for us to have to make our trip a bit happier on behalf of Virgin. That’s what I call customer service! (It definitely made missing our connection in York a bit easier. )

>>>Cake leftovers are the best! Sam and I have officially frozen a few slices for our anniversary, and I’m pressing flowers and trying to dry my bouquet to keep a little bit of the day with me forever.

>>> On my first day back to work I led an event up on the View From The Shard with champagne, so that’s not too difficult of a way to ease back in!

>>> Our home is filled with more cards than I’ve ever seen in one place  (outside of a stationery aisle), and our cupboards are full of American treats and candies.

>>> On a less epic note, Sam and I went to see “Ghostbusters” and I loved it. As I’ve mentioned before, I was a huge fan of the movies when I was little (and the cartoon series) and Wiig and co, definitely did it justice.

>>> We also attended the Lambeth Country show before our wedding, and I’ll be blogging about that next week as well.

>>> We didn’t go on honeymoon straight away (or even a mini-moon) so it’s been exciting to start planning and thinking about where we’d like to go. Obviously, I’m think Bali, Thailand or the Maldives, but less grand plans might have to be in store.

Any honeymoon suggestions? I also need to sleep for about a million hours this weekend – I feel like I’ve been running on adrenalin and sugar for the past month, at least!

  • Absolutely gorgeous!! It looks and sounds like a fab wedding. Can’t wait to see more snaps.

  • Aaaah those photos are gorgeous! This made me so happy inside. And it’s so lovely that so many people came over from the US – I’m not really a wedding/marriage person but I would totally throw a wedding just to get all my American family and friends over to Norway, haha. xx

    • It was so amazing to have my American crew with me- it’s what made the post wedding period a bit difficult – it was so hard to see them go home!

  • Congratulations!! And that is SUCH a sweet gesture from the train conductor – how kind 🙂

    • Thank you so much! It was such a lovely surprise – I tweeted the train company about it- hopefully it will give the conductor some good feedback 🙂 xx

  • Your confetti pic on Facebook had me smiling all day long! Huge congratulations to you both again!
(And it’s good to hear someone liked Ghostbusters! I’m going this weekend!)

    • Thank you so so much! I was grinning about it too! 🙂 I hope you liked Ghostbusters – I’m a Wiig fanatic so I think I was bound to enjoy it, to be honest. x

  • congrats! beautiful wedding photos!

  • Yay congrats!!! Your photos look so lovely, can’t wait to see them all!

  • Well I obviously want to suggest Switzerland for your honeymoon so you can come and see me. Hahahaha! More seriously though… Madeira? It’s beautiful, warm (even in December) and a bit closer than Thailand.

Huge congratulations to you and Sam. You look absolutely stunning and so, so happy!

    • Well you know, I’ve only ever been outside Zurich and Sam’s never been to Switzerland at all so…. you never know 😉 xx

  • Huge congratulations Amanda and Sam! You both look so happy and gorgeous in all of these photos, I hope your day was spectacular xxx
    Sophie Cliff

    • Thank you so much Sophie! It was such a fantastic time – yesterday we kept saying things like, “At this time last week we were doing X…”. xx

  • Congratulations. It sounds like your day was joyous and filled with love just as a wedding and a marriage should be. And your dress is drop-dead gorgeous.

    • Thank you so much Jennifer! I’m trying to think of ways that I can wear that dress again, I feel sad that it should just be boxed up. 😉 x

  • So amazing, best happy post ever! So many happy things. Congrats again, and I totally loved the Ghostbusters movie too, I don’t think I stopped laughing! Honeymoon in Italy! Go on a wine tasting tour through tuscany it’s amazing. Italy is super romantic too, it’s full of pretty people and places. Or Cinque terre looks incredible.

    • Italy is definitely on the list for sure. And I’d totally second the Cinque Terre recommendation. I hope Secret Garden Party was equally amazing!!! x

  • You were a beautiful bride. Congratulations! I am obsessed with your confetti picture and can’t wait to see more. You both look so unbelievably happy!

    • Thank you so so so much Kayla! I know it’s so cliche to say “it was the happiest day of my life!” But it truly was! I can’t wait to see the rest of the photos based on this taster that the photographer sent through and I’ll undoubtedly be blogging about the day once they all come through. xx

  • Gianni Washington

Congratulations! Glad you got to have the people you love from around the world around you for your big day (and a little before and after that, too!). The wedding photos look fantastic. And saving the honeymoon for another time sounds like a great idea — now you have another thing to look forward to!

    • The biggest reason at first why we delayed the honeymoon was to spend more time with the people who came over from America, but in retrospect I’m so glad that we did for the very reason you mentioned: it gives us something else to look forward to! I had a hard time saying goodbye to my best friend, mom and brother so now I have something nice to plan instead of dwelling on not seeing them! 😉 xx

  • Viki Bell

LOVE this post and the absolutley stunning wedding photos 🙂 Crongratulations again! If you’re looking for Honeymoon ideas I’d recommend Bali as it’s where we went. We stayed in the same resort for 2 weeks but did a 3 day trip in the middle of it to the north of the island. We wanted to go across to the Gili island originally but were too tired from the wedding. If you want any tips let me know x

  • huge congratulations again, beautiful lady! It sounds like the most wonderful time, and your dress is just gorgeous. I can only imagine how hard it is to say goodbye to your long distance family and friends, but these memories will be forever and cherished by everyone. As for the honeymoon – how exciting that you can still look forward to that!! We absolutely loved the Maldives and are already hoping to go again for our 10 year anniversary or something – the great thing about the Maldives (on top of everything else!) is that their peak season is our winter months, so you can escape the cold to paradise 🙂 xx

    • Thank you so much Miho! It was hard to say goodbye, but only because I was so moved by the fact that so many loved ones came to England, and now we’ll always have this brief time when all our friends and family were together, which is a truly magical thing! Have you blogged about the Maldives? I’ll have to go back through some of your posts and stalk a bit! 😉 x

  • How did the DIY DJing work out?! It all looks so lovely! I wanted to honeymoon in Europe somewhere since we were heading back to the Czech Rep and it would be easiest. I’m not sure what you are looking for in a honeymoon or when you’d be taking it, but for me, it was important to have a beach or pool (and to just chiiiiilll) but also to have interesting places to discover. I went with Greece, but Italy was the runner-up. I could imagine the French Riveria being lovely too and not too far for you. Greece (not Santorini though!) was incredibly affordable while having amazing culture & food and friendly people. Can highly recommend!

    • Beach and/or a pool that we can sit by is key for us! The weather here has only been gently warm this summer for the most part, and Sam and I are both going crazy for the idea of a sand holiday! The DIYing went really well in the end! It was a lot of hard work, but it totally paid off in the end – the day before we spent setting up and then the day after the wedding we had to do all the clean up, but it was totally worth it! x

  • Oh Amanda, reading this post makes me so happy! I think this is my favorite happy things post in this blog. Huge congrats, you look absolutely stunning, and all the photos are gorgeous. It’s so exciting that you still have your honeymoon to look forward to. All options sounds amazing, but if you choose Bali and need tips I can help with that 😉 xx

    • Thank you so so so much! It’s definitely my happiest one 😉 I’d love to pick your brain on some affordable but lovely places to stay in Bali if you have any recommendations! x

  • Christine Everyday

I am totally going to cry! You looked gorgeous. Can’t wait to see the rest of the pictures.

    • Ah! Thank you so much Christine! I definitely cried at multiple points in time during the day, so I think there are going to be some ugly crying photos mixed in there somewhere when we get them through! x

  • Ashley Angle

Congratulations on your marriage! Your wedding looks magnificant! Love your dress! My sister-in-law wore a similar style, but your every day outfits look a lot alike to so go figure! I can’t wait to see more pictures!

  • Congratulations! Your dress is gorgeous! Everything looks so beautiful.

  • Yes yes yes yes yes!!! If the photos so far are anything to go by the photographer did an amazing job!! 😀 can’t wait to see more of it and I’m over the moon for you both that it was so lovely! Alice xxxx

    • Thank you so much Alice- you’re so kind! I can’t wait to see them all and relive memories of the day. On Saturday we kept saying things like, “this time last week we were doing X” It’s so surreal that it’s already been a week already! x

  • This is defo your best Happy Things list! Congratulations to you and Sam, Amanda. My gosh, I love that photo with all the confetti. You look super stunning!!!

Honey x The Girl Next Shore

  • Everything about this is so gorgeous…I especially love the second picture of you two with confetti. There is so much joy in your eyes!!! I’m so happy for you (and I LOVE the dress!) xoxoxo

    • Thank you so so so much Jordan! I can’t wait to see the photographers photos of my dress hanging before I put it on- I tried to take some photos of it, but I really couldn’t do it justice! x

  • Your wedding honestly looks like it was such a magical day!!!! When we were honeymoon planning I ordered all these brochures and things on places in the Bahamas and Jamaica and then was like o yeah I am not rich but then we booked Las Vegas which we received quite a few raised eyebrows about but it was so fucking wonderful and made me realize how much more a honeymoon is just about being together and celebrating that joyous occasion of marriage rather than a big grand vacation.

  • Congratulations! You looked fabulous — love your dress. Oh a honeymoon! We went to China so I could show Jeremy where I used to live and see a few new sights together. It was a blast. I’m sure no matter where you decide to go you will have a wonderful time. It is just about traveling together and having new experiences 🙂

    • Thank you so much! That’s so wonderful that you were able to go to a place where you could share some of your history with him! You must have the happiest memories of that! xx

  • thegrownupgapyear.wordpress

Aw, so many lovely, happy things in one post! Congrats again on the wedding – you look fantastic and I’m glad to see the Yorkshire weather was on its best behaviour! We went on our mini-moon to San Sebastian, which was absolutely brilliant and then saved to go on our honeymoon to Japan the following year. I’m sure wherever you choose you will have an amazing time!

    • It truly was on it’s best behaviour! We couldn’t have hoped for a better week in Scarborough! x

  • Awe the best happy post:) Congratulations again it sounds like a lovely week! xx

  • This is such a happy read! A hearty congratulations Amanda and all the best on this exciting new chapter in your life 🙂 xx

  • Angie SilverSpoon

Your wedding looks utterly perfect! I love the confetti shot!

    • Thank you so much Angie! We packed everyone’s confetti cones and I honestly didn’t think there was that much. It was only when people started throwing it that I realised we had a crazy amount! x

  • This has made me smile from ear to ear! I am so glad you had the most wonderful day, it looked absolutely stunning. I hope you are enjoying that marital bliss that comes with the post wedding blues!

  • You are so beautiful! Sam is so handsome!!!! I am so happy for you both!

Also I totally approve of your decision to wear a short dress.

Also I am sorry for emailing you the day before your wedding, not realizing it was the day before your wedding…

    • Hahaha please don’t worry about it in the slightest! 😉 i’m so glad I went with a short dress- I will sing it’s praises forever. We got married and spent the majority of the day outside and the short dress allowed me to stay remarkably clean!

  • GRINNING LIKE A CRAZY PERSON. This made me so happy to read Amanda!! I’m so so glad you guys had an amazing day. The photos are fantastic (Especially that confetti one!) and I can’t wait to hear more about it! 😀 xxx

    • Thank you so much Katy! It’s such a cliche to be like “it was the best day of my life!” …but…it truly was! x

  • You look so unbelievably happy in all your wedding photos. Indeed it did look like a magical day! And the short dress is amazing!

    • Thank you so so much Camila! I fretted a bit that I would regret my one chance to wear a gorgeous long gown, but none of them really suited me and I just felt so much more comfortable and myself in a short one. And on the day I was so happy and felt finally validated in my dress choice! x

  • Ala

I’m catching up on the blogging world and this has brought a lot of joy to my heart! AH I wish I could squeeze you, you look stunning, Sam looks so dapper and you both just look utterly happy and dare I say relaxed! Love it xxxxxx

  • What a beautiful wedding day you had! Is that a House of Mooshki dress I spot??!!
GOrgeous! Beautiful blog – lovely to find you!

    • Thanks so much Holly! It’s actually a LouLou Bridal BUT I was choosing between this the Mooshki Esther.

But your little number in your Instagram profile is gorgeous! What it a House of Mooshki? Yay vintage inspired dresses! xx

      • Haha – so similar. Those House of M dresses are the inspiration for all short-dress yearning brides right!!
I did try a few, but actually mine was from a local shop who’s owner makes her own too and she adapted one of her long ones to be mine! And at a much lower total price still that a House of M dress!
