10 Happy Things Lifestyle

Life Lately || 10 Things That Made Me Happy

What a week, eh? I haven’t done a “Happy About” post for the past three weeks, even though I had one drafted for last week.  How could I post it when it felt like the world had started to burn down around my ears in the early hours of Wednesday morning last week?

But I have many, many small things in my life to be grateful for. And it’s been so long since I’ve written a post like this that my happy moments are quite far-reaching in the time continuum.

>>> My brother’s birthday always kicks off the beginning of November. I can’t believe how old he is now – I still think of him as a baby! And then my best friend and maid of honor’s birthday followed up straight after his.

>>> Halloween came and went in all its glorious creepy style. I hailed back to my early years and ate so much candy that I felt a bit ill!

>>> I have finished my rewatching of the Gilmore Girls which means that I’m ahead of schedule for the premiere on the 25th. I can’t wait. #teamjess

>>> In order to get as much time with people in as possible, we stayed over with Sam’s brother and sister-in-law so that we could stay up late without being hampered by London buses getting us home at night. I was hoping to blow my nephew’s mind in the morning when he woke up and we were still there, but alas! He seemed to sense our presence.

>>> We had an amazing Bonfire Night with some friends, who treated us to dinner and drinks as a belated wedding present before we all bundled up to watch the Crystal Palace firework display.

>>> The nice people at our (former) local pizza joint, 400 Rabbits, gave us a free pizza which was pretty darn awesome of them!

>>> I got a nice hair tidy up trim at the wonderful George Northwood. (Thanks Lotte!!!) I used to only get my hair cut once every 16 months or so (if you couldn’t tell by my out of control mane) and I’ve aways done my own bangs/fringe, but getting a haircut always makes me feel SO much better about myself so I’ve decided to treat myself every few months. I rarely spend money on myself and it’s the small things, right?

>>> I attended the Laura Ashley SS17 press preview and there were some BEAUTIFUL pieces in stock for the future. There was an amazing dungaree blouse combo that I loved. And I rarely gravitate towards green, but I really liked the leafy motifs throughout the summer range!

>>> Oh right, and we moved! We are now based up in York. At the moment we have zero internet and zero tv access. We’ve reached an impasse with packing. We are awaiting  an Ikea delivery with some essential things like a bookshelf, a wardrobe and a sofa so most of our belongings are still on the floor at the moment. We’ve also been eating dinner on cushions on the floor, which is exactly the way we did when we moved into out first London pad!

>>>  I have a new city to explore! York is so gorgeous that there aren’t enough hours in the day to take all the photos that I’d like to take.

Sam’s away photographing all weekend, so I’ll have some quality alone time to do some exploration. Any York recommendations?

    • The walls are just a hop, skip and a jump from our place so I’ve been having a lot of fun on them (mostly pretending I live in a different era 😉 ) xx

Betty’s always gets all the publicity, but there is a lovely little cafe between the station and the town called Brew and Brownie, which is probably my all-time favourite cafe anywhere. Great food, great atmosphere, and great coffee! 🙂

    • Sam’s brother lives in York already and his family recommend Brew & Brownie so we prioritised it. I just need to find a time to go back when it isn’t super busy! (My fault for going mid Saturday though!) xx

  • Congratulations on making the move!!

    • Thanks Angie! As soon as we have our internet up and running I have SO much blog reading to catch up on! x

  • My favourite place in York is Gatehouse Coffee – tucked inside the tower on Walmgate Bar! They do lovely food and the best chai, plus it has a wonderful Hogwarts vibe. I’m not trying to self-promote but I listed a couple of my other favourite places on my blog a while ago if you’re interested 🙂 xx

  • It sounds like you have had lots of happy moments over the last couple of weeks! Hope the move has gone well – we will have to arrange a catch up soon now you’re local 🙂 I need an excuse to visit York! x

    • Yes please! I was in Leeds super briefly the other night (a friend was in a show at the West Yorkshire Playhouse) but I didn’t have time before or after to arrange fun things, but I thought of you, Beverley and Bee! xx

  • So exciting, November will be a month to remember in your life – what an amazing stage! It’s so exciting moving somewhere new, can’t wait when it’s all unpacked and looking beautiful, so we can see it too! 😀 My mum is coming to visit this weekend so we’ve got haircuts booked together to treat ourselves! • #teamjess just felt I should declare that first and foremost!

Hope you have a lovely weekend exploring! My recommendations would be Brew & Brownie and the Perky Peacock for your coffee and cake fix! And if you wants something a bit more substantial then El Piano is an amazing gluten free/veggie/vegan mexican place, which may not look much but is so good! Stephie xx

    • I’ve hit up Brew & Brownie and the Perky Peacock was next on my list so I’m glad to know that I haven’t been branching out in a completely wrong direction. It’s really exciting to hear about the El Piano options. I’ll definitely remember that! xx

I haven’t quite decided if I’m Team Jess or Team Logan yet but I feel like I’ll be happy with whatever happens! I just wish it was next Friday already!

Enjoy exploring York – it’s one of my favourite UK cities! x

    • Logan definitely has his perks, but I’m still firmly in the Jess camp. I think it’s my inner high school girl that still swoons over him 😉 xx

Haha he is very, very swoon-worthy! xx
