10 Happy Things Lifestyle

Life Lately || 10 Things That Made Me Happy

Happy Friday everyone! The past few weeks have really flown by. Last weekend, I spent a lot of my time taking an intensive both paediatric and adult first aid course for work and will finish it this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I pass my test!

10 Things That Made Me Happy

>>> I found out that I have a spot in the Great North Run! I’m super excited about it as it will be my first ever half marathon and I’m doing it for charity. I’m running for Beat. Beat is the UK’s leading eating disorder charity; and they help so, so many people. Not only those affected by eating disorders but the family and friends of sufferers too. I’m running for Beat to help raise money for them, and I’m so honoured to do so. If you can spare even just £5, I’d be delighted if you could donate to my fundraising campaign

I’ve worked out my training plan and have ticked off my first few official runs. I hear that the Great North Run is one of the largest half marathons in the world, so I’m excited to see the atmosphere in Newcastle come September!

>>>I’d been waiting on pins and needles to see “Get Out”. I’d heard such brilliant, brilliant things about it when it came out in America and had to eagerly await it’s UK release. Daniel Kaluuya is incredible.

>>> Sam and I went down to London for a friend’s wedding. He and his wife met when they were both working at Lord’s Cricket Ground so that’s where the reception was. It was a really unique venue and I loved how special it was to their story.

>>> I just got my first haircut since we’ve moved to York and I went for a spring-time chop. It’s shorter than the lob that I went for when I cut all my hair off post-wedding. I’d say it’s a proper bob now. I’m really enjoying it at the moment: I don’t think I’ll keep it this short – I think I like the lob better, but I really like to change things up with my hair. It’s only hair after all!

>>> Whilst we were in London, I couldn’t resist treats. Not only did I have the chocolate filled donut from Bread Ahead but I also finally had one of the most instagrammed desserts on the scene at the moment: Ice Cream with candy floss from Milk Train.

>>> I’ve had insane Caesar salad cravings lately, so without exaggeration, in the past two weeks, I’ve probably had it for dinner at least 5 times.

>>> Sam and I had a lovely meander through Greenwich Park in the sun before we needed to scurry back to the hotel and get ready for the wedding. It was so great to be out and feel the sun on my skin and have no thought of bulky coats. I’ve now packed away all my heavy winter kit and it feels so good!

>>> More daylight! I love having extra sun. I love eating in the sunlight. I love having hours of sunlight ahead of me when I get off work and (blogger cliche) it’s just so much easier to shoot photos!

>>> It’s tradition for Sam and I to watch the Boat Race together every year. Since we were rooting for Cambridge it was awesome to see the ladies smash it, but disappointing for the men. I think if there’s one sport that I 100% could never do it’s rowing. There aren’t enough years in a lifetime that would give me time to get my arm muscles that strong.

>>>Hotel Chocolat sent me some super tasty Easter goodies this week. I had the Easter Hamper. The salted caramel puddles were divine, but I can’t ignore a good egg either!  Nab a bunch for yourself before the run on chocolate next week.

>>> And last but not least: My short trip to Gdansk. It was my first ever proper solo trip and I had a blast! I can’t wait to share all my photos with you because it was such a stunning, stunning city!

I’ll be doing another day of first aid training this weekend and then hopefully qualifying late Saturday afternoon, all being well! What are your weekend plans?

I need to try Milk Train!

    • If you have a chance to go on a weekday, do that because the weekends can just get so crowded! x

  • Lovely post! I loved reading about all the amazing things that made you happy. More daylight is definitely something that is making me very happy. This weekend I’m traveling home. I’m going to spend as much time as I can with my family and friends.
Hope you’ll have a beautiful weekend. xo

  • It’s hard to remember sometimes that hair = just hair! I’m having these irrational thoughts that if I cut it shorter, it won’t grow back as long (because already, it just stops growing longer at a certain point, ti seems)… hmmm. And those Easter treats are so adorable – I like the carrot one! Looking forward to our Easter holidays next week – essentially a five day weekend for us over here.

    • I’m sure its all psychosomatic, but I tend to think that my hair grows faster after I cut it (though I’m sure that it doesn’t really!). We get a three day weekend in England, so I’m pretty pumped about that! x

  • I’ve said it already, but I absolutely love your new hair! It really suits you and it’s perfect for spring/summer! Also – I bet the wedding at Lord’s was beautiful. How atmospheric!

    • Thanks lovely! Their wedding at Lord’s was perfect! I have zero interest in cricket but even I can admit that the building and the space is beautiful! x

  • Laura Torninoja

Ahh all that chocolate! I love the idea of a chocolate version of eggs & soldiers too – so cute!

Congrats on getting a place on that run, and good luck with the fundraising campaign! 🙂 x

  • How lovely that your friends had their wedding reception where they met – good job they met some where pretty classy and not in a sticky nightclub! Stephie xx

    • Haha totally. And Lord’s was actually a really lovely space to have a reception – wonderful views! x

  • I love happy lists, it’s so nice to see what people have been enjoying and making them happy! Your new haircut looks great and you’ve given me the incentive to actually go and get my summer cut done sooner rather than later. I used to do rowing at uni, but I didn’t do much rowing as I’m so short so I ended up steering instead haha! This weekend I’m planning on having a relaxed one, finishing up some craft projects and going out for coffee. Have a lovely weekend Amanda! x

    • How did you find steering? (I’m kind of fascinated by it all.) And thanks so much for your kind words about my haircut. Hope you’re having a great weekend! x

      • It was good, but no way near as much fun as rowing, plus the enjoyment also really depends on what crew you’re with too. A men’s crew I was with basically just wanted you to sit there and say nothing (they didn’t want a coxswain at all and thought they could do it all themselves) whereas the women’s crew really made you a part of the team. It did get incredibly cold during winter training though, despite multiple layers, as you don’t move at all and you also ran the risk of getting splashed!

  • so you liked Gdansk?

    • I absolutely loved it! I took so many photos that I’m still trying to sort through them all! x

  • love the collage!

  • Those Easter chocolates look amazing! The eggs and solider ones are too cute.

Well done on entering a marathon! What an experience that will be. I hope you enjoy every moment of it 😊

    • Thanks so much! I’m 100% not ready to run that much but hopefully by the end of the summer I will be! x

  • Your solo trip looked AMAZING – those photos xxx

  • Cat

I live in London! How on earth had I not heard about the cafe serving ice cream and candy floss?! I do love Hotel Chocolat though…might need to make a trip soon to stock up on some treats 🙂 C x

    • Haha, it actually opened before I moved away from London but had been on my to-visit list for ages! I still get my London time work weekly scan just to keep up to date though 😉 x

  • Yessss Amanda, amazing! 🙂 I am up to 11 miles, and I’ve got 2 weeks left before mine…eeeeek! Ive trained from zero to now in 3 months so you’ll have plenty of time!! Those choccies also sound absolutely divine too! Alice xxx

  • Charlotte Gransden

I definetly wish that I could eat of that hotel chocolat stuff haha

  • Your hair looks fabulous! And I agree, daylight saving feels so good!!

  • You were in Greenwich Park! You should have told me and I could have introduced you to all the best squirrels!

Also, Mark and I root for Oxford. This was one of the few years Mark didn’t go down to root in person 😉

    • Judging by what we saw on tv, it’s probably okay that you two missed out on going in person this year. It looked inhumanly busy. (Probably because the weather was so nice.)

Were you there in person the year the man swam through the race to interrupt/protest? That’s probably my favourite year… x

Rowing must be such a good workout for the arms and back 😀 I’m doing a kickboxing workout routine which is approximately 40 minutes and it gives me sore back muscles every.single.time 😀 Nothing ever seems to change 😉
