York || 10 Best Coffee Shops and Brunch Places in York

Long time readers will know that I am a bit of a caffeine addict. I can’t help it! It’s definitely an addiction but I need something to kick start my day. Luckily York has a plethora of great places to go! In fact, I think York has far more independent coffee shops and cafes than it does chains! And you’ll know that even more than coffee, I love brunch. It’s the finest meal of the day, and I won’t hear anything against it.

I mentioned before that I was spoiled for choice with brunch places in London and I was afraid that it would be one of the things that I missed the most. But I was supremely surprised! Some of the best brunches I’ve ever had were here in York instead!

10 Best Coffee Shops and Brunch Places in York

Perky Peacock

It is located at North Street Postern Tower, Under Lendal Bridge, York YO1 7DJ

I’d wanted to have brunch at the Perky Peacock before we had even moved to York. I spotted its few sought-after outdoor seats on the bridge right by the river and I was sold! But then we moved here in the firigid cold of November, so I had to wait till it was warmer to nab one of those coveted spots!

Your Bike Shed

It is located at 148 Micklegate, York YO1 6JX

Because where else in York can you get your bike repaired whilst having a great cup of coffee?

Spring Espresso

It is located at 21 Lendal, York YO1 8AQ (but there’s also another location on Fossgate!)

Spring Espresso is fairly close to the train station (not a million miles away from the library) so it’s perfectly situated for a quick cup of coffee. The seating is fairly limited but the coffee is lovely. (And the coffee art is pretty great!)

Brew & Brownie

It is located at 5 Museum St, York YO1 7DT

I came for the brownies, but I stayed for the avocado toast and perfect iced coffees! This York favourite is definitely worth braving the queues for, and they’ve recently opened a second little shop to hurry the wait up a bit. Read my whole post on Brew & Brownie here, but I can’t promise that you won’t drool all over your keyboard!

Coffee Culture

It is located at 41 Goodramgate, York YO1 7LS.

Crumbs Cupcakery

It is located at 10 College St, York YO1 7JF

Super delicious coffee, more cupcake varieties than you could ever dream of, super twee but lovely decorations and superb views of the Minster. What more could you ever want from a little cafe? I wrote about Crumbs Cupcakery not too long ago so check it out

Mannion & Co

It is located at 1 Blake St, York YO1 8QJ

I love going to Mannion & Co for brunch and their coffee is lovely as well. It gets busy but there’s another room of seating round the back, so there’s more space than you might think. It’s a great place to go for a coffee and a sandwich. I have a full review of Mannion & Co, so head a few posts back and check it out here

Stanley & Ramona

It is located at 30A Bishopthorpe Rd, York YO23 1JJ

Stanely & Ramona is actually the first cafe in York that I ever visited. It was during the darks days of moving in when I needed to use the Wifi because our house wasn’t connected it. The coffee is great, but you should make sure to have it with a side of their sourdough toast.

Pig & Pastry

It is located at 35 Bishopthorpe Rd, York YO23 1NA

Though it gets super busy, I’m a massive fan of the Pig & Pastry. It might be my favourite place in York! I highly recommend it. Especially if you can pop in on a weekday when the brunch crowd isn’t taking over the place.  You can read my entire post on the Pig & Pastry here

Bison Coffee House

It is located at 17 Heslington Rd, York YO10 5AR

It’s a quiet little coffee shop with lots of cozy nooks to snuggle up in and read. You can read my whole post on Bison Coffee House here.

Fossgate Social

It is located at 25 Fossgate, York YO1 9TA

Fossgate Social is a unique coffee shop that serves great food and has a licensed bar if you fancy something a little more adult to drink. In the summer, they have the perfect sun-trap seating.

Honorable mention:

Gatehouse Coffee

It is located at Walmgate Bar, Walmgate, York YO10 2UB.

Gatehouse Coffee has the most stunning locations. However, I found the service to be less than stellar. But because of its beautiful, historic scenery I’m willing to give it a second chance!

Is there anywhere in York that I’ve missed off my list that you’d recommend? What place would you be most excited to try?
