Your Bike Shed is my latest York coffee shop to visit, on my ever-increasing list of places that you MUST eat at in York. It’s incredible how many coffee shops and hip cafes that such a small city as York has. And let’s face it, this might be one of the most hipster of them all.
Your Bike Shed is located in (and slightly adjacent to) a bike fixing shop. If you haven’t been to York before, you might not know but York is a massive cycling town. Not at an Amsterdam-Copenhagen level, but certainly more than anywhere else I’ve ever seen in England.
Or course, I’ve recently joined the York cyclist community with my rusty £5 bike, but one day maybe I’ll have a lovely city bike with front basket attached.
But back to Your Bike Shed. The coffee is delicious (and strong, so an automatic winner in Sam’s books). I had the chocolate and mint cake. The cake was lovely and airy whilst the mint buttercream got the minty balance just right. It’s so easy to be a bit heavy-handed with the mint and then ending up with a finished product that closer resembles toothpaste than a dessert. Thankfully, this was not the case here and my cake was perfectly decadent.
Sam had the gluten-free chocolate fudge cake and it was so spongy and divine that I couldn’t help but steal a few forkfuls. It would have been rude not to!
I’ve not been there for lunch but I eyed up the food of my fellow customers that day and it all looked lovely. A return visit is already on the books.
Your Bike Shed is located at 148/150 Micklegate York YO1 6JX
