Seasonal Eating in January

Happy January everyone! Now that we’ve entered a new year and a new month, it’s time for a new seasonal eating list. 

I have seen loads and loads of people on my twitter timeline mention that they are taking part in Veganuary, which I think is just absolutely brilliant. I know that for those of you whose first time it is cutting out meat and dairy, it’s already going to be a huge change, but here’s some guidance on what veg will be most delicious at this time of year! 

(I also have loads of vegan recipes, if you need some inspiration). 

Seasonal Eating in January   

Food that is in season in the UK in the Winter (December, January & February): 
Fruit: oranges, lemons, dates,  grapefruit, quince, apples, bramley apples, clementines, pomegranate, pears, rhubarb (greenhouse fruit grown in the UK) 
Vegetables: cauliflower, parsnips, pak choi, swede, turnups, celeriac, cabbage, beetroot, leeks, brussels sprouts, lettuce, purple sprouting broccoli, Jerusalem artichoke, chicory, sweet potato, celery 

Food to eat in the UK in January: 

beetroot, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, celeriac, chicory, Jerusalem artichokes, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, parsnips, potatoes, salsify, shallots, turnips, swede, spring green cabbage, savoy cabbage, carrots
