10 things

It’s half-term now, so I’ll be catching up on some much-needed sleep, and I think it’s safe to say that the last few months have been extraordinarily difficult on all of us.

But as I haven’t written one of these update posts since July, there’s a lot that’s changed around these parts.

So.

10 things that have made me happy recently:

>>> I’m settling in at my new school. The students are lovely and my colleagues are extremely supportive. It’s a difficult time for every teacher in the country, but it is a very challenging time to be new to a school Luckily, I feel like I am in the best possible environment for it.

>>> I’m also settling in to my new area. I’m now in Northamptonshire, and whilst there are some days that I miss York quite a lot, I am slowly but surely adjusting.

>>> I now live quite rurally, and I’m sad that I wasn’t here for lockdown. I’m surrounded by fields and deer and countryside and rivers. The scenery is absolutely fantastic.

>>> My reading was slow during lockdown. Like many of you, I really struggled to focus. Coupled with my new job at school, I thought my books read this year would be low. However, I’ve already hit my Goodreads goal of 75 books for the year already!

>>> I absolutely love Halloween and we are coming up to that magical time. I have tickets to go see “Dantes in Furlough” at the Vaults in London. (So I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we don’t escalate into Tier 3 before I have the chance to see my first live theatre in months.)

>>> I’m fully on board with the curated ear trend at the moment. I got two new piercings at the end of August (a helix piercing and another lobe piercing). I love the versatility of looks I can achieve. I’m all about tiny, minimalist, gold studs at the moment.

>>> I’ve booked online screening tickets to see the play Emilia with it’s fabulous all female company in November. I also booked tickets to see The Ocean at the End of the Lane at the Duke of York’s Theatre next autumn, so let’s hope for the best!

>>> Long time readers will know that I am the ultimate seeker of warm weather and tend to dread the change in weather. To combat this, I’ve leaned into my favourite festival things and have been filling my free time admiring the changing foliage, getting PYO pumpkins, going to a local farm for fresh corn, treating myself to some new candles and embracing my natural fashion element of dark clothing with a bold lip.

>>> Last year, I rung in the New Year in Edinburgh. This year, I’ve found a stunning little Airbnb in Brighton for a fab rate. I’m hoping to spend a quiet but happy New Year in one of my favourite Southern seaside spots.

>>> I may have finally broken my night owl ways. As someone whose natural tendency it is to stay up till 3am and be exhausted all the next day, it feels fantastic to fall asleep at a normal hour.
