Eat Vegan || Eat by Chloe

vegan burger from chloe

I’d been long-awaiting the arrival of Eat by Chloe to London. I’d known they were building the Covent Garden location for nearly a year before it opened and I really hoped that its opening was going to coincide with when I was down in London to see Hamilton. Sadly, I missed the grand opening by about 2 weeks. So I had to wait a few months before my next opportunity to go down to London and factor in some Eat by Chloe time.

by Chloe is an entirely vegan restaurant that started in New York and now has several New York locations, California locations and now London. I know that some bloggers have found the food a bit hit or miss, and slightly over-hyped, but I absolutely loved it. Everything that I ordered was delicious. Vegans need junk food too!

I started with a tasty (if a tad too strong) iced latte, before moving on to my main: the classic burger and the air-baked sweet potato fries. The classic burger consisted of a tempeh, lentil, chia, walnut patty with pickles, onion, special sauce, beet ketchup, lettuce and tomato on a potato bun. I got a little pot of the beet ketchup for my fries: it was tasty, though a little earthy at first. What I was really looking forward to was the vegan chipotle mayo for dipping my fries in, but unfortunately, they were all out of it that day. The burger was absolutely delicious and the sweet potato fries were divine.

And I had to end on a sweet note, so I picked up one of the chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting and sprinkles. (It also happened to be gluten-free). I loved the frosting, but the cupcake was a smidge dry.

It was extremely busy when I was there – in fact, I nabbed the last table. (You order at the counter first). But I think it only took about 10 minutes for my food to come out to me which is a great turn around for a heaving London weekday lunchtime service.

So will I return to by Chloe? Absolutely! The prices are a little steep for fast-food, but no steeper than some place like Byron Burger. It will definitely be a “special occasion” treat for me. Plus there’s just so much excitement in walking in to a restaurant and being thrilled and intrigued by everything on the menu.

I couldn’t help but love the interior of by Chloe. It was a millennial’s Pinterest dream board. I’m just sad that all of the swinging seats were taken when I was there. A great excuse to go back?

Eat by Chloe is located at 34-43 Russell St, Covent Garden, London WC2B 5HA but another by Chloe opened up near Tower Bridge early last month.
