A bunch of fortuitous life circumstances all conspired to have me in Manchester a few weekends ago. One Saturday evening, the Northern Blog Awards were being held in Manchester and the following morning Sam and I were due to fly out of Manchester airport very early to go to America. So it just made sense to stay the night (though it meant my visit to the Blog Awards required more luggage than most).

ibis Manchester Centre is about a 10 minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly, which was perfect as we were transporting so much luggage with us (and it made it great for waking up and catching the early train to the airport.) But it’s also perfectly located for exploring pretty much all of the centre of Manchester.

When we arrived at the hotel, I was presently surprised. I’ve stayed at many ibis locations in the past, but this one definitely focused on style. I loved its very quirky decor, and I especially loved the way the rooms, hallways and doors were styled. The hallway carpet was made to look like leafy, autumnal cobbled streets, and the cheery room doors played tricks on your mind as they were painted to look like chiselled house front doors. (I had to run my fingers over ours multiple times because it was so realistic looking!)

We were also delighted to find on check in, that we’d been given free drinks vouchers for the stylish bar attached to the hotel. That was an extra special touch and we relished bringing our drinks to our room and sipping them as we got ready for the blog awards.

The service at the hotel was lovely; I’ve found that ibis staff are always some of the absolute nicest and most helpful people in the business. And reception is open 24-7. The only slight criticism that I had was that whilst the decor was extremely stylised, some of it looked slightly worn. I’m sure it’s due to the fact that it’s a high trafficked hotel, with a very reasonable price and some extremely instagrammable features, so I can definitely forgive them for that.

Usually, one of my favourite things about staying in an ibis is that check-out time is noon, so as long as you aren’t in a hurry to leave you can have a long lie-in. Sadly I didn’t get to utilise the long lie in this time around. We also didn’t get to eat a delicious ibis breakfast as we had to head to the airport pre 6am. (It made for a rough post Blog Awards wake up).

ibis Manchester Centre is located at 96 Portland St, Manchester M1 4GX. Rooms start at £51 per night and they are excellent value for money.
