ABCs of Summer

This summer has been fiendishly cold, wet and distinctly un-summerlike compared to all the hot weather last year. As tomorrow is the summer solstice, it seemed like an especially applicable time to share my annual ABCs of summer. (My annual summer bucket list).

ABCs of Summer

Autumn vegetable preparation. As crazy as it seems considering summer hasn’t even really started yet, it’s already time in the allotment to think ahead to the autumn

Barbecuing at every possible occasion. There isn’t a single food stuff that I don’t think I’d prefer grilled! Grilled lettuce is especially tasty if you haven’t tried it before.

Celebrate the 4th of July by eating my favourite American snacks for dinner. And maybe lighting a sparkler or two!

Detox. I want to have a social media detox weekend where I don’t pick up my phone from Friday to Monday.

Eating outside. It’s messy and there’s usually ants but I still love it. Even if it’s just having my morning coffee in the garden.

Find a local pick-your-own farm to pick strawberries.

Gardening. The allotment is absolutely insane. With all the rain this year, I can hardly keep on top of things so it’s going to have to become a summer priority

Harold’s second anniversary with us. Harold turned 2 a few weeks ago, and in a few weeks time, he’ll have lived with us for 2 full years. It seems like he’s always been here.

Ice cream. Need I say more? Bouja-Bouja ice cream is the best vegan ice cream around, especially the salted caramel flavour.

Just exercise more.  Especially motivate myself to run more. I’ll feel better if I do.

Keep my toes as free from shoes as possible. Make the summer my best barefoot life.

Lighten the load and minimise the things in the house (again).

Make a flower crown.

Nature hikes in the sunshine.

Open air cinemas and music.

Prioritising my mental health. The spring was less than good.

Quiet nights at home.

Relax a little. I haven’t been very good at self-care or relaxation in awhile.

Seaside trips. With the coast so close there’s no real excuse not to go!

Take better care of my physical health.

Update my wardrobe slightly. I might be undertaking a new role in the autumn, and I’ll need to change what I wear on a daily basis potentially.

Visit someplace new in the UK. Money is quite tight right now, but I hope to have at least one summer trip to see something new. Even if it’s just a day trip.

Working away. I’ve been fairly absent around these parts because all my free time has been taken up with paperwork and applications for something I’m hoping to share with you all very soon.

Xylophone band practice. The Northern group is letting me down a bit.

Yoga classes. I have a studio in York that I love, but I fell out of practice this winter and spring because I was so busy.

Zip around in the car for some local, staycation travels!

What are your summer goals?
