Sausage Dog Walk Leeds

dog sausage dog walk leeds

I wasn’t sure that I was ever actually going to write this post becuase the event had come and gone so long ago. But since everyone’s travel and plans have fallen through, I decided that I definitely needed a bit more of a smile on my face and what better way to do that than by writing about my favourite thing: the wee beast.

Right before Christmas, I took Harold to a festive Sausage Dog Walk in Leeds. The walk went through Roundhay Park, it was free, though everyone was raising money for various dog charities, in particular charities that look after diseases that dachshunds are prone too.

I think the numbers clocked in at something astounding like over 400 dachshunds. Most of them wore their finest festive wear, and being very well behaved. Though it was a dachshund walk, so there were definitely a few naughty beasties.

We arrived at Roundhay about half an hour early. The park is massive and I don’t know it well, so I wanted to give myself plenty of time to find where everyone is meeting. I shouldn’t have been worried. You could have heard all those sausage dogs from a mile away. After a bit of chilly milling about, we started the walk. It must have been weirdly intimidating to see so many tiny dogs and their humans in the park, if you hadn’t expected it!

The walk took around an hour to complete. Some dogs raced to the front, others lagged back a bit. A few dogs gave up on the walk halfway through, but never Harold. He loves excitement too much.

I was super proud of him that day. He can be a bit nervous around other dogs, and that sometimes manifests in him getting extremely barky and a bit snappy but his behaviour was absolutely impeccable. I was such a proud dog mother that day. I think that sausage dogs may feel more at ease around other sausage dogs but that’s just my theory based on nothing but observing Harold.

The walk is an annual event and I would certainly take Harold again. Harold didn’t keep his festive jumper on for the entirety of the walk, but he’s the beautiful sausage dog in the grey jumper with the reindeer on it.

So without further ado, please enjoy some extremely cute dog photos for your Wednesday morning!
