Fettle Cafe, Leeds

brunch-at-fettle

As one of the things that I am missing most at the moment is coffee and brunch made by someone other than myself, I thought it would be a great time to blog about a new favourite: Fettle.

Before the lockdown, I ventured to Leeds for some fairly boring reasons, but decided to indulge in some brunch whilst I was there. I googled “best brunch places in Leeds” and across the board, one name kept coming up again and again. Fettle.

My friend had green tea whilst I started with the red velvet latte and then moved on to a more savoury turmeric latte. Fettle is famous for their speciality coffees and my lattes did not disappoint. I’m glad I tried the red velvet latte, but it was almost too sweet for me. The addition of chilli flakes to the turmeric latte was inspired and I’d order it again in a heartbeat.

My friend had the kedgeree (£9.50) which consisted of smoked fish, curried rice, peas, and poached egg. I can’t attest to it, but apparently it was absolutely delicious.

I had the vegetarian benedict (£9.50) which was roasted butternut squash & sweet potato, poached eggs, spinach, hollandaise, thyme all on toasted sourdough. It was incredibly gorgeous but I definitely could have eaten more of it. Story of my life. It was the hollandaise. It was so creamy and had the perfect amount of tang so that it wasn’t too rich.

The atmosphere was lovely and the decor was very Scandi-minimalist. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table but were able to order and drink our first tea and coffee respectively whilst waiting.

Fettle is located at 73 Great George St, Leeds, LS1 3BR

I would 100% recommend Fettle and I’ll definitely be back again soon. Is there anywhere else in Leeds that you think I should visit?
