ABCs of Winter

I can’t believe it is time for my ABCs of Winter post already. It feels as though I just wrote the autumn post.

And believe it or not, this is actually the 8th ABCs of Winter post that I’ve written!

So without further ado, the list!

Advent calendar chocolates. It feels so decadent to start the day with a chocolate and I love it.

Begin (and finish) working on my lesson plans for the Spring term.

Cooking a vegan Christmas. I am still looking for the perfect vegan Yorkshire pudding recipe so if you have one, please let me know!

Decorating. I don’t have a Christmas tree, but I’ll still decorate in other ways.

Enjoying the dark evenings instead of dreading them.

Foster my own sense of self even futher.

Gingerbread baking. For as much as I love baking, I’ve never been satisfied with my gingerbread men. This year, I will conquer them.

Hot Chocolate (and hot beverages in general.) Plus I picked up some vegan Baileys last year that I can’t wait to get my hands on again this year!

Ice skating. I haven’t been in 5 years, ever since I moved away from London. Honestly, I find it mildly terrifying so hopefully I can use that as motivation.

Jump head first into the New Year with a lot of positivity.

Kindness. Generosity in others and humankind seems to come out more during the holidays and it can be inspiring to see.

Lighting candles and spending time being as cosy and introverted as possible.

Movies. I am a sucker for a good holiday movie… The more rom-com-ey the better. It feels like years since someone made a proper Rom-Com.

Nights in. Life gets so busy so for me, one of the best things about winter is the increased acceptability of getting to be housebound.

Open fires and the cosy woody smell coupled with gentle waves of warmth. It’s a recipe for a delightful nap.

Preparing for 2022. Hopefully this will be the year that life will be a bit less bumpy than previous years.

Quiet mornings and frosty country walks. Especially living in the countryside of Northamptonshire – it’s beautiful. I love walking along the River Nene.

Ringing in the New Year in Edinburgh. It’s what I did to ring in 2020 and I am so much looking forward to going back.

Snow. Could a white Christmas be in store for us this year? I’d absolutely love it. Harold wouldn’t love it quite so much.

Traditions! The holidays are the surest time of the year for establishing your own traditions and I’d like to start some new ones. That was one of my goals for last year, and I didn’t quite accomplish it.

Unwinding. The Spring term can seem long, so spending some time unwinding now will stand me in good stead to the future.

Valentine’s Day. It’s ages away, but it’s one of the few things to look forward to after New Year’s Eve. I find January-February to be so unbearably bleak that I need something to look forward to and cheer me up. Even if it’s something as cheesy and commercial as Valentine’s Day.

Watching Christmas films. From Harry Potter film marathons, to Christmas classics, it’s a great time of year to curl up and watch something. I’m hoping that Netflix will release another amazing Christmas classic soon. Along the lines of ‘Christmas Prince’.

Xylophone band winter concert. The Christmas tunes are especially good.

Yuletide cheer. It’s a bit of a cliche, but when everything is sparkly and festive the world seems a big more magical.

Zzzzz…winter is the best time to catch up on some snooze underneath a cozy duvet.

What’s on your list for the winter?
