Throwback Thursday : I’ve Always Been a Drama Queen

Happy Thursday everyone! While I am still home I’m going to continue to harvest old photos from the 100s of family photo albums that my mom has. Because Rhyme & Ribbons probably won’t have a similar opportunity for years to come.

So if you’re tired of childhood pictures from the early 90s go elsewhere. But then come back tomorrow, because I’ll miss you.

As you will see, I always loved being the center of attention. A precocious talent for divatude.
(What a lovely Cheerleader Halloween costume!
Except if you look closely there’s a Christmas Tree in the background.)

My brother is 4 years younger than me, so for the first few years if his life we shared a room. My brother could never sleep through the night. My mom couldn’t figure it out. No matter what she did he’d wake up again, crying, before midnight. Why? Because I’d be lonely, couldn’t sleep and I’d poke him till he woke up crying so that my mom would have to come in the room and check on him  read me another story.

That’s both sneaky and vicious. I don’t know if I should be ashamed or proud that I was a baby evil genius. I guess the proper way to describe my actions was that I was a little shit. Diva score: 6 out of 10

(Baby Evil Genius face.
I still make that face.)

(Jean jacket and a saucy stance.)

I legitimately did ballet. And tap. And modern. Did I like dancing that much? I don’t think so. So what did I like? When people clapped for me. I’m not kidding. We have home movies of ballet recitals where I refuse to get offstage and kept bowing after everyone else has already exited. The dance teachers would have to come on stage and physically remove me. Diva score: 10 out of 10

(Look how pleased I am. You’d think I invented dance.)

This was a costume for a ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ themed ballet recital. I kinda had a Miss Piggy face at this age:
(I’m ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille)

What can I say about the Wizard of Oz? It was like crack to me. I’d watch the movies. I’d listen to the songs. I had WoO themed birthday parties. But the piece de resistance on my costume wardrobe? The Dorothy costume. I wore it for two years. Not on Halloween. Just on a day to day basis. My mom sewed it though, so massive props to her.

I went to school like this. On and off for years. People must have thought I was a badass. Or a freak. Diva score: 4 out of 10

(There’s even a toy dog in that basket. I was obsessed.)

I loved hats. I wore them all the time. And then early in my childhood “Blossom” ruined hats. I had to throw them all away. Stopping wearing hats by the age of 7 because they were too trendy? Priceless. Diva score: 7 out of 10
(I look like Colonel Sanders granddaughter.
I wish I had inherited his chicken money.
Mmmm….Original Recipe)
