York

York || Bison Coffee

Bison Coffee House is one of York’s most established independent coffee shops. It’s also incredibly popular with students since it lies fairly perfectly between the city centre and the University of York campus. It has a super cool and eclectic vintage look and the extra neat thing is that most of the items that you see on display are for sale too.

Bison is cash only and there’s no wifi, but it’s a great place to plonk down with friends or a good book! The coffees are super creamy (which I love) but if you’re not a milk fan I’d suggest, say a flat white over a latte. For me, the lattes were perfection. I’d also highly recommend grabbing a brownie (or seven). I had the ooey gooey Nutella brownie and it was all kinds of wonderful. And I was glad that I had that coffee to cut through some of the brownie richness. My second choice brownie recommendation would be the Malteser’s one.

Bison has a new guest coffee this week, so if you’re a coffee lover you can pop in and try new ones periodically. I’ve also heard through the grapevine that the bagels are pretty on point, but I’ve yet to try one.

There’s more seating that you might first suspect when you walk in, and it’s a perfect rainy-day hideaway. I’m slowly working my way through York’s incredible cafe/coffee shop scene, and this is definitely a fine one!
