10 Happy Things Lifestyle

Life Lately || 10 Things That Made Me Happy

Hello everyone! And a very happy first Friday in July! The summer is absolutely flying by and I’m sure that it will be thick knits and pumpkin spiced lattes before we know it. In the meantime, I aim to eek every ounce of summer out of the next few months. Seaside trips, bbqs and sunburns. The whole shebang!

10 Things That Made Me Happy

>>> There’s been some excellent television on. I finished “American Gods” and loved it, and then I binge watched “Glow”. I wasn’t expecting to like “Glow” but I really got sucked into it! My boss told me that I looked like Alison Brie in “Glow” and I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or an insult.

>>> Sam and I rode the North York Moors Railway on the 20th Anniversary of the release of the first Harry Potter novel. It’s significant because the NYMR is a steam train railway and it was actually used in the first film as Hogsmead station. It was a great day to indulge in something both fangirl-y and historical.

>>> I’ve hit the 6 mile mark during training runs. That might not sound like a big deal to most of you runners out there, but it’s a huge deal to me! Great North Run, here I come.

>>> Last night I went to a bloggers dinner at The Grand Hotel in York. It was a fabulous! I met some excellent people, ate some tasty food and drank some lovely drinks!

>>> Last weekend, Sam and I went and cuddled a litter of dachshund puppies. They were absolutely precious and won’t be able to leave their mother for another 5 weeks. But when they are ready to leave, one of them is mine!

>>> I got a refill on my Aesop Parsley Seed masque and I’d forgotten how much I loved it. It’s absolutely ace – the best masque out there on the market!

>>> Sam and I finished watching “American Gods” it was absolutely fabulous and I can’t wait for the next season. Having long been a fan of the book, I know the general plan for the show but my favourite character at the minute is Mad Sweeney.

>>> We’ve done quite a few Yorkshire based activities lately: going to the Yorkshire Museum again, visiting the Yorkshire Lavender Farm – having a car has facilitated so many amazing things!

>>> I celebrated the 4th of July this year by eating as much junk food as possible – it was a chips and salsa, twinkies, tootsie rolls, redvines and pop tarts dinner!

>>>  One of my close girlfriends is pregnant and I’m so excited to meet her baby, even though it’s still ages away!

Have you voted for anyone in the #BloggersBlogAwards? Because I’d love if you would cast a vote for me, in any category you’d like!

There’s a street fete this weekend in my neighborhood that I’m super excited about. What are your plans for the weekend?

  • What a great list! Puppies! 4th of July (I had a BBQ, which was great, especially with the perfect weather)! American Gods! I’m glad you enjoyed American Gods. I’m afraid to watch it as I love the book so much. Also, so much of it is set around the various places I lived growing up, so I think it might just make me homesick.

    • I’m a huge fan of the American Gods book too and I think it’s fairly loyal to the story! They’ve taken some liberties with Laura Moon but only to flesh out her character a bit. I’d say that the first season only covered about the first 8th of the book – so it’s not trying to rush anything which is a huge relief! (That’s why I never wanted it to become a movie – there’s just way too much to fit in!) x

  • I cannot WAIT for you to get a little sausage!!! 😀 Gosh they’re such cuties, i’m very jealous! Though hopefully it won’t be too long before I can get Frank, my wire fox terrier, as my heart longs for a dog of my own!! Alice xxx

    • Thanks Alice! I hope you get Frank very, very soon! 😉 xx

      • I’ve got to find a new job and move full time to Cornwall first, so it may not happen until early next year as I’m going to the Philippines in the autumn with work and I don’t want to miss out on that! xxx

        • I feel a bit bad about you not getting Frank straight away, but the Philippines is going to be amazing! How long will you be there for? x

          • *Hopefully* 3 weeks, with some extended time for holiday afterwards – Adam and I want to visit Vietnam, and i’m hoping he can just meet me out there! xxx

          • Whoa! That sounds amazing! Definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity! x

  • I can’t wait to see your puppy!! My best friend is pregnant too, very exciting 🙂

    • Thanks Angie! It’s so lovely when friends are pregnant because you get to benefit from all the cuddles later on (and still hand them back at the end of the day 😉 ) x

  • Everyone is getting puppies and I’m so, so, so jealous! All I want is a dog. And a baby. Not necessarily in that order.

We are going to be in the UK in the summer, but sadly we’re skipping Yorkshire this time. We’ll be in Devon/Cornwall, very briefly Northumberland then the Lake District. If we’d had time for Yorkshire I would have insisted on meeting you!

    • Oh drat! When will you be in the UK? And what’s the closest in Northumberland that you get to Newcastle? (Because I am there occasionally!) x

      • 19th August-2nd September. Northumberland 25th-28th or 29th August. It’s south-east Northumberland, so about 20 minutes from Newcastle. We will be driving from Leicester to Northumberland on the 25th so we’ll pass close-ish to you then, I guess?

        • Oh bollocks. I don’t think we’ll have any overlapping time and just pass like ships in the night. Next time you come to the UK we must arrange to meet! x

          • Such a shame… finally you’re closer to Northumberland and I’m not even spending any proper time there. One day I will have to arrange a proper, long trip “home” then we will have plenty of time to get together x

          • Yes please! x

  • PUPPY. And yesss my best friend just announced she’s pregnant too! (with TWINS of all things!)

Very jealous of the train trip. I’ve been dying to do that for years!! 😀 looking forward to reading your blog on it! (I assume you’re doing one, right haha?) xxx

    • Twins?! That’s even better! Double snuggles that then you are able to hand back later 😉

I have a blog post planned eventually. I haven’t even exported my photos yet though. (Oops, bad blogger). But now I have TWO ways to try to tempt you to York. One- puppy. Two – steam train trip! xx

  • Oh, how wonderful that you’re getting a puppy. We got our whippet about a year ago and I couldn’t imagine life without him now.

Weirdly, my best friend had a baby boy yesterday! She told me about the pregnancy really early so it seems like she’s been up the duff for years. I can’t believe the next time I see her, she’ll have a little human with her. Well, I saw little, he’s a bit of a bruiser actually (9lbs 3 – ouch).

This weekend, we’re throwing a surprise 40th birthday party for a mate. I’m trying to keep things low-key and therefore stress-free. But I do hope it doesn’t rain xx

    • Ah! Fingers crossed for weather on the surprise 40th! Hopefully you’ll have a pretty good chance of some glorious sun!

      9lbs 3?! Ouch indeed – I really don’t envy her that! x

  • Omg the little puppies are SO cute! Can’t wait for yours to come home and all the snaps!

  • Laura Torninoja

Awww puppies! Can’t wait to see all the pictures :’)

My boyfriend keeps trying to make me watch Glow but I haven’t been that interested. After reading your thoughts on it I might give it a try though – do you think it’s a good watch even if you’re not interested in wrestling? x

    Laura // Middle of Adventure

    • Definitely! I’m probably negatively interested in wrestling – it couldn’t be farther down on the things that I’d ever waste time on list. But Glow was still amazing. It was more about the theatre and acting behind wrestling than the physical stuff and characters are amazing (and mostly women which is extra awesome!) x

  • Glow is on my list of shows to watch, it looks like it’s so interesting! Congrats on reaching a new milestone in your running, that’s amazing. Great post! xx

    • Thanks so much lovely! I’d definitely recommend Glow – as I mentioned, I really didn’t think I’d enjoy it as I have no interest in wrestling (or sports in general) but I loved all the characters and mostly female cast! x
