Green Smoothies for Happier Skin

I’ll be totally honest, I know that I don’t get a proper amount of fruit and veg everyday. I try, but it’s still not quite enough. After talking juices fairly extensively with Jaclyn, I knew it was just a matter of time before I too jumped on the green juice bandwagon.

Confession: I signed up to The Knot to keep track of my wedding planning with their premade checklists. But then I promptly deleted the “body routine” and “beauty routine” sections. I’m not planning a new fitness/diet regime  for my wedding, nor am I scheduling any spray tans/teeth whitening sessions for the beauty “goals”. I just want to look like I do now, but that someone who knows how to do hair and makeup took care of my head for once.

The only thing I am going to try to do is keep my skin healthy in the meantime by staying hydrated and eating *slightly* better.

This post was in conjunction with The Body Shop’s release of their new Virgin Mojito range which promotes all things green and #HappySkin. I tested their new range, which is released in stores this week and it smells glorious.

How do you make your skin happy?

  • Mmm. I’m back on a smoothie kick now that we’re starting to get some decently warm days. Do you mind me asking what blender you have, and do you like it? I currently use my immersion blender which does a fine job but there’s a lot of cleanup involved with blending in a separate container! I’d like something I can make ahead and blend up when the time is right!

    • I have a Breville blend active (so it’s made specifically for smoothies and the sort). I think it’s great because it’s so easy to clean (the blades screw on to the mug/bottle that you drink your smoothie out of). The only negative would be that really tough veggies, like kale can be a chore of it to get through. I’ve also heard great things about the nutri ninja ! x

  • Mmm…. I’ve been in the lookout for a new green smoothie recipe and this looks (and sounds) amazing – Thank you!

  • Yumm your pictures are gorgeous! You definitely have me wanting to grab my blender right now! I’ve been pretty good lately about eating well, but it’s such a precarious situation haha

    • Yes, I know the feeling! Sometimes I want to pat myself on the back for a day well-balanced nutritionally, and some days I want to eat donuts instead. x

  • You are so healthy right now! Looking forward to the “Amanda buried in wedding cake” post. Are you doing tastings? Coz those are always fun.

    • Ugh, don’t let healthy posts deceive you- it’s only because over my birthday weekend I had all the sugar and all the alcohol and developed beaucoup spots over night so i’ve been trying to balance some of the “bad”.

When I was little, my biggest wedding fantasy was the cake tasting process. Yes, I was the girl version of Bruce Bogtrotter. But in the present day….. I’m still toying with the idea of making my own wedding desserts (with help from family that I can guilt into it.) Maybe baking them a month before and freezing them, then defrosting before the wedding? However, I will definitely have to practice this method multiple times over the coming months to ensure that the cake/pies/brownies don’t taste like freezer. x

  • I’m a massive green smoothie fan. Admittedly, it took me a while to get into them, but now I couldn’t imagine not drinking them. And I find drinking lemon and ginger tea is great when my skin breaks out x

    • I love just having lemon in water first thing in the morning. It really helps refresh me for the day! x

  • Ellen Smith

    I love green smoothies.
    I bet this tastes delightful.
Gonna have to try your recipe.

    Ellen,

  • I only have a hand blender. I would love a real one!

    • I was recently given a blender and I love it. Before that we had been using one that Sam’s mom had given us that she had gotten for Christmas in 1985. It still worked though so it says a lot about the quality – it was just massive and took up all our counter space! x

  • This looks so yummy and refreshing! defiantly gonna try it out one of these days! thanks so much for the awesome post!

  • Mmmmmm! Our Vitamix just broke and it needs to be replaced… this will be one of the first things I make once it’s back in functioning order!

    • I ave heard incredible things about the vitamix. Do you love it? Is it worth the money? x

      • It’s really really great if you’re a cook (which you are!)– because it not only does great smoothies, but also can make things like hummus, almond butter, nut milks, creams, and tons of pureed soups. If you have a food processor though, I find that there’s crossover between the two. That said, I’m not super experienced in the blender department though, so I can’t compare it to cheaper blenders! x

  • I love making fresh smoothies! It’s a great way for me to get enough fiber in my diet, plus I use full fat yogurt and/or coconut cream for extra fat and calories. It’s amazing that you can’t even taste the spinach.

    • You really can’t! It has a slight “earthy” aftertaste from the spinach, but you don’t really notice it amongst the fruit. Today I had one that was beetroot and berries and I didn’t taste the beetroot at all! x

  • I am a big smoothie fan! I love kale, ginger and apple.

  • Doesn’t look nice hope it tastes better then it looks

    • HA! I actually think it looks quite beautiful, so I’d be on team “it looks better than it tastes”.

  • This looks really tasty and oh so healthy! I always try and look after my skin and think the biggest difference is made when it comes from within πŸ™‚ xx

  • I recently jumped on the green juices wagon too! I used to not eat nearly enough fruits and veggies so it’s been a great way to up my daily intake. Can’t wait to try this recipe πŸ™‚

  • Well good for you sister trying to eat a little healthier!! Smoothies are juices are such a great way to get those veggies in!

  • I’ve been on a smoothie craze lately. They are just so delicious and makes me feel so good. To keep my skin happy, I also drink lots of water.

  • Looks delicious! When I first moved here I discovered the ‘green machine’ juices and used to buy them once or twice per week – but they are so expensive I can’t really afford it anymore – might have to try this recipe though!x

    • They are crazy expensive! I think that’s the biggest hold up that I had before I started making ours. x
