Life Lately || Happy Things

I hope everyone had a great week back at work after the long weekend! That 4 day weekend definitely left me feeling refreshed and excited to start the week. And the weather has just been glorious lately. No matter what’s happening at work, or how frustrating London transit can be, or how sick paying rent makes me feel, the warmth and the shining sun puts a little extra pep in my step.

10 happy things that have occurred in my life lately:

life lately easter time

1. An amazing Easter feast! Sam and I spent Easter alone but didn’t scrimp on the cooking. From a joint of beef to mac ‘n’ cheese, we had dinner in the bag. Plus I made a lemon icebox pie for dessert.

2. I’ve been relishing this extra hour of sunlight so much! I know people hate losing the hour of sleep, but I’d rather have the extra sunlight any day!

3. This amazing homeware haul from Flamingo Gifts. They have some super unique gift ideas, and I’m pretty much in love with a lot of their stock. I received these really cute coasters (£9 which are currently on sale) that are right at home in our flat. We have a glass coffee table so coasters are key to fight having to constantly clean mug rings off it. Sam and I both like the deer best. My favourite thing about these coasters is that they don’t stick to the bottom of damp cups like our last ones seemed to. I also received this lovely set of birdie plates (£23.40, also on sale), which I haven’t had an excuse to use yet, but they have a lovely weight to them! This owl pillow (£14.62) also has a new place on the bed (and I’ve named him Jenkins). And I’m currently using this set of vintage floral suitcases (£17.95) as storage, but I have wedding decor ideas brewing! On the website, the suitcases are stamped with a “bloggers love this” seal, which, I suppose is true. I’m a walking cliche! But I seriously do recommend Flamingo Gifts as an online retailer. Not only was their service straight forward, their customer service was helpful and they packaged some breakable items really well.

(And I received the items from Flamingo Gifts for the purposes of review, but I wouldn’t post them if I didn’t think the quality of the products was good and the service I received great!)

4. Finally seeing “My Night with Reg”. It was directed by a friend, and has gotten amazing reviews during its West End run, but I’m super ashamed to say that I just now got the chance to see it. It was absolutely brilliant and deserved all the acclaim it’s been getting. Also the night we were there the entire audience got a glass of champagne at the bar just by showing their ticket. #bonus

5. Sam and I saw “Cinderella” at the movies. My friend Greg made an appearance as an extra, which was cool. I enjoyed the adaptation but I didn’t find Madden especially charming as the Prince. But to each his own!

6. Sam and I have a tradition of reading to each other aloud, especially outside when the weather turns nicer. Last year we powered through the “Harry Potter” series. Before that we read “The Little Prince” and “The Phantom Tollbooth”. (None of these had Sam read before. It’s like he didn’t have a childhood.) This year we are going to get through the Narnia series. We’re already halfway through “The Magician’s Nephew”.

7. I had a lovely catch up with an old friend from drama school and her husband who now live outside of London. We sat and chatted in Wahaca for so long that we didn’t even realise that everyone else had left and that the staff were sweeping up.

8. I was gifted this absolutely incredible pair of brogues from House of Fraser. I don’t think I’ve ever gushed about a pair of shoes more. They fit perfectly, were exceedingly comfortable and didn’t require any breaking in at all. I think I’ve worn them nearly every day since receiving them. Be prepared to get sick of the sight of them in outfit post after outfit post.

9. Getting to have a nice, sunny afternoon in the park with the niece and nephew who were down in London on their term break from school.

10. Yesterday evening, as I undertook my seasonal exercise routine (and by that I just mean evening walks) I treated myself to my first 99 flake of the year. With raspberry sauce because it was a Thursday.
