A nutritionist once told me that the currently ubiquitous Green Smoothie isn’t actually that healthy for you, and that you’re much better off just eating some spinach or some kale. But that if smoothies are one of the only ways that you can quickly get some greens in to your diet that you should definitely opt for the smoothie.

Now, I tend to think that I do pretty well getting in my daily veggies, but I also know that there’s no harm swapping out a pastry breakfast or my favourite avocado toast for a green smoothie every now and then. Having a smoothie is an easily digestible way of upping that green intake (and of getting in some iron first thing in the morning). And they are a great way of staying hydrated in the summer months. Though I’ll be honest, I still tend to have a morning coffee alongside a smoothie. Balance, right?

I can be quite picky with smoothies, so this recipe came out of a lot of trial and error but it’s one of my absolute favourites!

10 oz orange juice
