ullapool, scotland

Happy Friday everyone! Though it is the end to a rather fractious week… England is out of the World Cup, the heat wave has snapped, Trump is in the UK, it’s Friday the 13th, and I have a summer cold.

But there’s still be a lot on my life lately to be excited about.

10 Things That Have Made Me Happy Recently

10 things

>>> Sam and I saw ‘Hereditary’ at the cinema. It was haunting, terrifying and it had one of the most stressful 10 minutes of film that I’ve ever seen.

>>> I’m trying out a new organic, cruelty-free skincare system from Green People UK. Green People were one of the first certified organic beauty companies in the UK via the Soil Association, and they’ve long pledged to never sell in China as long as China maintains its regulations requiring animal testing. The brand is also PETA certified cruelty-free.

I’ve been trying out their Daily Essentials Starter Pack (a cleanser, exfoliator and SPF moisturiser) as well as their Nightly Rituals Starter Pack (an eye cream, a night cream and a vitamin moisturiser). They were both perfectly travel sized and convenient to use, so they are the toiletries that I brought camping in Scotland with me. (Yes, I brought 6 skin care items with me – I don’t really wear makeup, but skincare, always!)

So far, I’ve liked them all, though the vitamin cream has a bit of a stronger scent than I usually like. I’m especially liking the SPF moisturiser.

>>> Sam, Harold and I had an absolutely amazing time in the Scottish Highlands. I can’t wait to go back soon. Ullapool, the Isle of Skye, Fort William, and Culloden Moor were true highlights! (The midgies were the one bad thing.) We even drove the infamous Bealach Na Ba. And by we, I mean Sam drove and I leaned out the window telling him which curves were clear and which ones had traffic on them.

>>> I loved seeing my aunt and cousins. It had been far too long and it was so lovely!

>>> We all went and saw “Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the new Rose Theatre in York. Sam and I had a friend in the show and were delighted to see him on stage. The venue is great! It gives the Globe a run for it’s money, for sure.

>>> All of this sunny weather is just glorious. I honestly can’t remember a time in England when it’s been this hot, sunny and dry for so long. I am LIVING for it!

>>> We’ve been having picnics with friends and having bbqs in our garden and really making the most of the weather.

>>> I went to the York Vegan Festival and it was absolutely wonderful. I had some of the tastiest foods that I’ve had in a really, really long time.

>>> I’m an aunt again! I have a new nephew and he looks so squishy and adorable! I can’t wait to give him all the cuddles.

>>> There’s been some excellent television this summer. From this latest season of Ru Paul, to season 2 of Queer Eye, to Hannah Gadsby’s “Nanette”.
