Savannah, Georgia is a place that’s very special in my heart, so I was overjoyed to finally get to share it with Sam. The weather is usually fairly lovely, but again, we were very (in my opinion, lucky) with the heatwave whilst we were there.

We rented a car for our trip to Atlanta, so very early one morning (to beat the mad Atlanta rush hour traffic), we set off to Savannah. The drive takes about 3 1/2 hours depending on traffic, but once you actually leave the city, the drive is really easy. Though make sure you stop and fill up for gas somewhere outside of Macon as there are not loads of places to do so between there and Savannah.

Once you are there, I’d recommend staying in the Historic District. It can be slightly expensive, but it’s worth it because then nearly all the attractions are walkable. Whilst we were there, Disney was filming the reboot of Lady and the Tramp in Forsyth Park, which was quite exciting. Walking around the Historic District and the waterfront is a must, as is visiting the Telfair Museums. (Where the famous “Birdgirl” statue from ‘Midnight in the Garden in the Good and Evil’ is kept.) One of my favourite things to do in Savannah is to visit Bonaventure Cemetery. The old cemetery with its wild nature, moss and stunning alleys of trees is just beautiful.

But absolutely no trip to Savannah is complete without going on a ghost tour. Most old cities claim to be “the most haunted” but Savannah really seems to have a fair grasp on that claim. I’ve done multiple ghost tours in Savannah before and they are always a delight.

The other great thing about Savannah is that since the college of Art and Design is there, there are usually some fairly interesting exhibitions or gigs on for evening entertainment.

Savannah is also a great place to eat and drink. The Pink House is super famous, but it’s also extremely expensive, so I recommend having a pre-dinner drink there. That way you still get to experience being inside its grandeur, and then heading off to dinner elsewhere. I wanted Sam to experience at least one splash out meal whilst we were in Savannah, so we opted for dinner at Hueys on the River, and he claims it was one of the best meals he’s ever had in his life. (Plus I stuffed myself with beignets which is always great.)  Sam picked me up the best vegan pastries and coffee one morning from The Coffee Fox. But I can also recommend Foxy Loxy and The Foundery.

And last but certainly not least, if you are there when there is some beautiful weather forecast, make sure to set aside some time to drive over to Tybee Island and spend some time on its gorgeous beaches.

Once again, Savannah did not disappoint and I can’t recommend it more highly!
