A Life Update: PGCE Teaching

I’ve kept this as absolutely quiet as possible, even though it’s been in the works since late April. But for those of you who follow me on Instagram, you’ll probably have already noticed that I am now in my 4th week of a PGCE programme at the University of York. I was accepted as a trainee secondary-school (high school for American readers) English literature and language teacher.

It is a school’s direct placement, meaning that I’ll be spending a few days at the University studying and doing learning modules, and a few days at a local secondary school observing and slowly taking over classes to teach myself. All being well, next July I’ll be a newly qualified English teacher with a job lined up.

I’ve alluded to changes being in the air on social media, and even though I was accepted into the programme months ago, I was waiting until my bursary was confirmed before letting everyone know. (I needed the funding, realistically, do be able to do this.)

I had to apply through UCAS, do several essays, interviews and even a day giving a lesson at a local school. It was all quite nerve-wrecking and exciting. The course is very competitive, so I was thrilled to be offered a place.

But what does that mean for this space? Well, I’ve always worked with children, so I’ve always had the policy of not every talking about my day-to-day work. That shall obviously continue. It’s also going to be a very full-on 12 months; between studying and lesson planning, I’m definitely going to have to cut back on posts on this space (and social media). I’m always going to aim to have a post go live once a week, hopefully on a Wednesday. Please forgive this slight step back.

I can’t wait to begin this new chapter of my life next week.

I hope that all my followers will segue with me into this new portion of my life.

Is there anything new with you? If so, let me know in the comments!
