At Home Wine Tasting with The Wine List

When The Wine List reached out to me to have me review one of their wine subscription service, I was thrilled. I really enjoy a good bottle and I definitely need to broaden my wine education, and if I can do that at home that’s even better!

So with The Wine List every month, you will learn one Wine Principle, a bedrock of how wine is made, broken into bitesize chunks. This will apply to all wines.

I usually avoid red wine in the summertime because I tend to prefer one that can be chilled for the warm weather. (A summer picnic with a cold, crisp glass of wine is idyllic. ) So I was delighted to discover that this Cara Sucia red wine can stand up to a bit of a chilling. It had heavy cherry notes and it was absolutely delicious. 10 out of 10, would buy again.

I also tried the Massaya Blanc, which is a Lebanese white wine. I don’t think I’ve knowingly had a Lebanese wine before so I was especially excited to try a white from an area that I’ve not been exposed to before. The soil that the grapes are grown in in that vineyard is especially chalky and the chalk really comes through as a tasting note in the wine.

I really enjoyed it during my tasting; the only drawback in my mind about this one is that as I didn’t finish it the night I opened it, I popped it back in the fridge till the next day and when I poured a glass of it it had gone quite sweet. (In general, I avoid a sweet wine.) Now I know that most wines do start tasting sweeter after they’ve been opened due to oxidation and other chemical changes but this one seemed to go sweet really quickly. I wish I had finished sharing it on the night that I opened it because it was truly delicious then.

The wines come with tasting cards and I am nerdy enough that I thoroughly enjoyed reading every inch of them aloud, as well as space to make your own notes on the flavour, finish, balance, colour, and all the rest.

Another added benefit of The Wine List is that they try to only provide wines that are rarely found in the UK so you have the added benefit of finding different makers, vineyards, and bottles.

And if you find a wine that you really like, The Wine List sell individual bottles when they have a surplus here.

The Wine List is also offering 30% of your first box with the code: RHYME30 . It’s usually a £39 monthly subscription.
