Travel || 10 Things To Do In Liverpool

I am a bad UK tourist because as of this autumn, I will have been in the UK for 10 years and as of summer 2020, I still hadn’t visited Liverpool. It’s inexcusable really, it’s only about a 2 hour drive from York. So one Saturday, desperate to see somewhere new, I had a friend drive me over for a whirlwind day in Liverpool.

10 Things To Do In Liverpool

1. Walk around the Albert Docks. Historically, the Albert Docks were one of the most innovative and important docks in the shipping world and now it’s a World Heritage site.

2. Take the Mersey Ferry. The ferry cruises past Liverpool’s ‘Three Graces’, the Port of Liverpool Building, the Cunard Building and the iconic Grade I Liver Building at Pier Head. (It costs about £10).

3. Visit the Tate Liverpool. I love a Tate Museum, having haunted both Tate’s in London quite frequently, and the Tate Liverpool is equally worthy. You can even spot a Warhol.

4. Go to the Beatles Story. Confession. And please don’t hate me. I’m actually not a massive Beatles fan. But when in Liverpool… It’s one of the most visited attractions in the area and it’s located in the Albert Docks. It costs £15.95.

5. See Liverpool Cathedral. It’s a stunning Gothic structure in the heart of the city. It’s also the 5th largest cathedral in the entire world.

6. Go shopping on Bold Street. Bold Street is filled with quirky independent shops and restaurants. Plus have a coffee at the fabulous Bold Street Coffee. They are famous in Liverpool for their flat whites.

7. Visit the Museum of Liverpool and learn all about the history of the area.

8. Even though I am not a football fan, I would be amiss to not recommend to visitors to see a game at either Liverpool FC or Everton.

9. Have a dance at the Caravan Club. Obviously not an attraction for the pandemic times, but in the future, visit the Caravan Club to dance all day long to 60s cover bands.

10. Hang out in the Baltic Triangle. The Triangle was a former industrial center and the intersection of three roads (Jamaica Street, Greenland Street and Upper Parliament Street). Shops, venues, and markets fill the containers and warehouses with art, music, and food.

Have you ever visited Liverpool before? What would you recommend?
