Review || Death Cab for Cutie Tour

All millennial sad girls remember Death Cab for Cutie (and Postal Service). In fact, in modern dance class, we frequently did warm-ups to both. But that’s another story.

Recently, I saw Death Cab on the UK leg of the European Tour at the world famous Rock City, Nottingham Venue. They were promoting their newest album, which, in full disclosure, I had not listened to. I’m more of a classic (re: old) Death Cab fan.

Despite that, the gig was still loads of fun. The openers, Slow Pulp were very The Pixies-esque. I didn’t necessarily love them but they had one or two really strong songs. Hopefully, they will continue to find their own sound.

Then Death Cab came on and played just shy of two hours. My favourite thing about the gig was how much fun they seemed to be having on stage. They seemed to be so happy to be there and there was a real sense of playfulness and comradery between them. And I needn’t have worried about not having listened to the newest album, they still played loads of their classics.  Fan favourites were ‘I Will Follow You Into the Dark‘  and ‘I Will Possess Your Heart’.

They played a very generous encore of 4 songs with ‘Soul Meets Body’ being the penultimate and ‘Transatlanticism’ being the closer.  Seeing Death Cab live didn’t revolutionise my feelings about their music but it was a very, very fun gig.

Have you ever seen Death Cab Live?
