10 things that made me happy recently

I’ve said it already on my instagram account, but one of the best things about February is that by the end of the month we’ll have nearly 2 full extra hours of daylight than we had at the start of the month! And then here in March we have the time change in a few weeks. Spring truly is brewing.

I’ve been so busy with the show that it’s been a long time since I’ve done one of these posts, and I’ve been itching to write one. I had some spare moments last night before going into the theatre, so I dove right in!

Life has been so full-on since after Christmas. Straight after the holidays I jumped into rehearsals, which rapidly took over a lot of my free-time, working my day job, writing this blog, plus finishing up my doula studying. I should have completed my doula course at the end of February, but I’m having to extend it slightly. Hopefully, I’ll turn in my final project before the end of this month.

That’s been a lot going on, and I haven’t really had any time to myself over the past 2 months. I’m relishing a slower spring.

10 Things That Made Me Happy

>>> I guest posted on Trivago’s Room 5 website about some of the best dog-friendly hotels and cottages in Yorkshire. I had a lot of fun putting the post together for them and thinking about all the amazing places that Harold is allowed to visit.

“Ever since we got our lovely little dog, not leaving him behind on weekend breaks has been of the utmost importance. Luckily, since my pup is a miniature dachshund (a sausage dog), he is a bit easier to accommodate than, say, a Great Dane! And as we are based in York, we have some of the most beautiful countryside in all of England on our doorstep – we couldn’t ask for a better location for quick and easy staycations and weekend getaways!” You can read the rest of the post here and I recommend that you do.

First of all I think you should read it because I came up with some great options for travellers with pets. And second of all, you should read it because there are loads of adorable Harold photos!

>>> I celebrated Rhyme & Ribbons 5th birthday in a way that was perfect for me and this space.

>>> Sam and I have binge-watched all of Parks and Recreation in February. We’ve finished it now and I’ll miss Leslie Knope, Andy, April and Ron.

>>> I don’t want to jinx anything, but things are finally starting to tick along nicely in our home buying journey. Watch this space!

>>> I finally watched “The Big Sick” after wanting to see it for months. It was every bit as good as I hoped it would be. Funny, moving: it was everything I wanted in a romantic comedy.

>>> We also noted our engagement anniversary. We by no means celebrated it; just gave a nod to a wonderful day that led on to even more wonderfulness.

>>> Even though I had to work whilst everyone else on the internet seemed to be off at home for a snow day, the snow was beautiful while it lasted. I’m glad it’s gone now though. I am done with winter weather.

>>> I’m going to Berlin again in a few weeks, and then I have a trip to Prague lined up in April. I can’t wait. I still don’t have any accommodation lined up for Prague, so if you have any budget or great hostel recommendations, let me know!

>>> I received a Myroo Skincare parcel on Wednesday and I was over the moon about it!

Myroo is a Yorkshire brand (made in Harrogate) and all their products are vegan, organic and natural. There are fragrance-free options for every product and they are cruelty-free as well. As I use up old products, I’m gradually trying to replace them with cruelty-free versions wherever possible, so this was so welcome!

In fact, they are the UK’s first entirely “free from” skincare line and are particularly cogniscent of  people with allergies and sensitive skin.

The first thing I’ve to try is the Gentle Cleanser. It has Apricot Kernel Oil, Starflower Oil and is scented with Orange Blossoms.  Then there’s the skin boost serum with the same scent profile with the addition of rosehip and raspberry seed oil. The superfood balm contains cucumber, raspberry, mango, papaya, carrot, avocado, and olive. It’s suitable to use all over the body. And last but not least, I’ve the lip balm in spearmint with Jojoba and Coconut oil.

I don’t like to give a full skincare review until I’ve tried the products for a few months to see how my skin reacts but my initial impressions were all really positive! I like the packaging and the labels. Everything smells absolutely brilliant, and I’m particularly enamoured with the Skin Boost Serum so far.

They have free UK shipping, FYI!

>>> I binge-watched all of the “Queer Eye” reboot in just a weekend a few weeks ago. It was so lovely and heart-warming. I cried nearly every single episode.

>>> I’m only at the York Theatre Royal for three more shows. I can’t believe it’s gone so quickly.
