On our way down to Penzance from York, we decided to split the trip up so that it wasn’t too much for Sam to drive on one day (though we did the whole drive on the way back at the end of the weekend). So we spent the night at the ibis Bristol City Centre

The ibis Bristol City Centre is perfectly located if you are a tourist in Bristol and wanting to explore the city. It’s right by the habourside, Science Centre, and Millennium Square. (Plus there’s an absolutely fabulous gelato restaurant right outside of the Ibis.)

The hotel was massive and seemed fairly empty, despite being there on the first night of a Bank Holiday weekend. There are 182 rooms in the ibis Bristol City Centre. Our room wasn’t luxe but it was clean, cosy and up to a perfect standard of every other Ibis location that I’ve stayed in. And the bed was super comfortable. It was just what I needed after a long workday and then 5 hours in the car. (It should have taken only about 4 hours but we got hit with a terrible rainstorm around Birmingham.) Plus the staff had left me a little welcome note in our room before we checked in which was an excellent touch.

What really set this location apart was the fact that the staff were so lovely and accommodating.  I had multiple questions (about nearby petrol stations, parking, etc) and all of my questions were answered concisely with a smile. And when I had a slight snafu with my breakfast booking the staff really nicely sorted it out for me, despite the error being my error.

Which brings me to breakfast. Breakfast is what truly sets Ibis apart from other hotels in the same budget range. I guarantee that you aren’t going to find as delicious and as many choices for hot breakfast at similar hotels. There were lots of options for me to have a tasty vegan breakfast (lots of breads, fruits, granola and a non-dairy butter) and there were still enough options that Sam could have a full-English plus extra pastries. I heartily recommend ibis breakfast. The one thing that I’d change about the breakfast was that I didn’t really enjoy the coffee (it tasted a smidge garlicky?!) and there was definitely room for improvement there.

But one of my favourite things about staying in an ibis is that check-out time is noon, so as long as you aren’t in a hurry to leave you can have a long lie-in. It was the perfect way to break up a 9 hour drive.

ibis Bristol City Centre is located at Explore Ln, Bristol BS1 5TY. Rooms start at £48 per night and they are excellent value for money.
