Home || 5 Tips for a Peaceful Bedroom During Lockdown

A lot of us having been spending much, much more time at home. And I know that I, for one, am not the only one who has re-done their bedroom during the lockdown. Nothing too major: I’m a renter so I can’t repaint or put too many holes in the wall, but I definitely used the time to spruce everything up.

1. Add some greenery to the room.

Not only does having plants in the bedroom look and feel fresher, but they oxygenate the room, and studies have shown that stress levels are lower when plants are around. Plants can also help reduce noise. With health and visual benefits, what’s there not to like about having plants in the bedroom?

Also adding plants to the room adds texture to the room, but more on why you’d want to do that below.

If you’re really pressed for time, just adding some flowers to your room can have a mildly similar impact.

2. Consider adding texture to your bed using natural fabrics.

If you look around your room and you feel like something is missing, that it just doesn’t have that same glossy appeal from interiors magazines and Pinterest, my bet would be that the missing element from your room is texture. Texture gives the space dimension, creates comfort, a focal point, and interest. An easy way to do that is to add some strategic cushions and throws to your bed. You can now get an extensive range of cushion covers at Yorkshire Linen store to help you accomplish your texture goal. I personally like using a neutral colour palette and adding natural fabrics to accomplish this.

3. Move your furniture around.

I decided that the current layout of the room just wasn’t quite right, so I changed the where all the furniture was. Except for the bed. I cannot move the bed. Plus it felt like my exercise for the day.

4. Have a tidy and a clear-out.

Cutting down on the amount of clutter in my room made it feel a lot more fresh and clean. I always do a major spring clean anyway (you can read my tips on that here) so it was a natural part of freshening up the room. My general rule of thumb to adding anything to my room or my wardrobe is that something has to go for something new to come in.

5. Change the lighting.

If you hate overhead lighting, make sure you have the appropriate lamps in your room. Do you read in bed? Make sure your lighting is conducive to that. Do you prefer a warm or cool light? Are you crunched for space on your bedside table? Maybe look at a sconce or standing lamp. It’s definitely worth taking some time to think about the lighting in your room as it can really elevate your room quickly.
