New Year Reflection

2020 was a doozy, wasn’t it? I think I speak for most people that we are so glad to see the end of it and to be moved on to 2021. I welcomed in this new decade with open arms and ended up being sadly disappointed.

2019 was a very hard year for me (hello divorce!) so my hopes for 2020 were:

“2020 might not promise to be bigger and brighter. I’m not going to become smarter or more talented. I won’t be thinner or richer.

I’m hoping to nurture the important friendships I have in my life. I want to spend mornings in bed drinking coffee and reading good books. I want to spend evenings on the sofa wrapped up with Harold. I want to graduate from my PGCE year and gain my QTS. I want to have a teaching job lined up for my NQT year. I want to go on one or two really good trips this year. I want to act the sh*t out of the part of Lady Macbeth this spring. I am hoping for happiness and simplicity.”

Now I did graduate with my QTS and I am working in a fantastic school in the most stressful situation possible. I didn’t get to go on my holidays and Macbeth was cancelled the weekend of the dress rehearsal.

So maybe my hope for 2021 will be even simpler than my hopes for 2020.

This year I want to laugh more. I want to stress less. I want to toast with friends and eat good food. I want to sit in a theatre audience again. I want to experience new things. I want to be.

What about you?
