10 things 2021

It’s the first one of these posts since 2020! And here we are still firmly sequestered away in England in another Lockdown. I don’t think I’m alone in saying that I’m finding this Lockdown so much more difficult than Lockdown 1.

The weather and the daylight hours were a huge boon in Lockdown 1, but I also found myself possessing a lot more hope than I do now. Mostly because the government keeps making terrible mistakes that plunge us deeper and deeper into a cycle of lockdowns and restrictions being lifted.

10 Things:

>>> Christmas was very low-key and quiet, with just the boyfriend and me. However, it was filled with laughter and good food.

>>> I finished the first term of my NQT statutory period, my feedback was all very positive and I’m pretty thrilled about it.

>>> My New Year’s plans were utterly scuppered (a trip to Brighton with dinner booked in a fancy restaurant – booked back in August when I was hopeful about the pandemic). So it was a very quiet but gentle New Year which was fairly telling about the way 2021 is going so far. I’d rebooked this trip in December to my Easter school holidays but now that’s looking unlikely as well.

>>> America has a new President sworn in! I shan’t lie. I very nervous about the Inauguration but it was both surreal and hope-inspiring.

>>> Virtual School has been a big adjustment but I’ve settled into my groove now.

>>> I’ve been doing Yoga with Adriene’s 30 Day Breathe challenge every weekday morning and it’s been a real positive for me.

>>> Harold has brought me so much Lockdown joy. I would have been so devastated if he hadn’t been here with me for a good portion of it. I’ve been able to have him for almost two solid months for a variety of reasons and it’s been amazing.

>>> I’ve also been going to a run every day on my lunch break. Who am I?

>>> I have really been struggling with concentration so my reading goals haven’t been going particularly well, but I have re-activated my love for Pinterest so that’s something, at least.

>>> I’ve been doing lots of online play readings – from modern plays to ancient Greek plays to Shakespeare to Oscar Wilde and it’s been a blast. And a vague hint at normalcy.
