What I’ve Been Reading Lately

books and feet

It’s been a spell since I’ve done a round-up. So here’s everything that I’ve been reading lately! If you want to read my last round-up from March, here it is.

Reading Recently:

A Court of Thorns and Roses Series #1-3 by Sarah J Maas
I gobbled this series up, practically in one sitting. I absolutely adored it. Especially the second book. Or heroine is caught in a conflict between the fae world and the human one.
5 stars

The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna
This was a fascinating debut by Forna. It has a hunger games vibe that is tied in with cultural legends and religion. I’m looking forward to the sequel.
4 stars

Brideshead Revisted by Evelyn Waugh
A classic for a reason! Set in Oxford between the World Wars it’s luscious reading material.
4 stars

Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw
Most people know the musical ‘My Fair Lady’ and this was the play it was based on.
5 stars

The Confessions of Frannie Langton by Sara Collins
Part Alias Grace, part 12 Years a Slave, it was a harrowing read in parts; following Frannie from her life as a slave on a plantation to her life as a servant in London.
3 stars

The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare
Two sets of twin and mistaken identity hijinx. I actually hated this play. Loathed it. I never want to read it again.
1 star

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
I really enjoyed Miller’s retelling of the Achilles myth.
4 stars

Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M Danforth
Another YA book that I have loved lately. There are two distinct storylines that overlap with a great degree of mystery.
5 stars

Abhorsen by Garth Nix
The final book in the trilogy was potentially my favourite.
4 stars

Lireal by Garth Nix
I had read Sabriel ages ago and I finally decided to pick up Nix’s series about necromancers.
4 stars

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
That twist. Made famous by the television programme, it’s still worth reading.
4 stars

Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
Possibly my favourite in the series? My favorite character is introduced in this book and he is utterly charming.
4 stars

Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo
My least favourite in the series. I hated the ending. I feel like it’s message is so distorted? But I don’t want to to spoil it for anyone.
2 stars

Ghost Wood Song by Erica Waters
A fascinating coming-of-age/haunting/monster story with a bluegrass background.
4 stars

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones
It took me a while to get into this horror book, but once I did, it’s gruesome nature was engrossing.
3 stars

Have you read anything good lately? My recommendation out of all of these is A Court of Thorns and Roses.
