Planning the Perfect Relaxed, Healthy Summer Evening

***This post is in collaboration with a brand; all thoughts and opinions are forever my own.***

Is there anything better than a balmy summer evening? Not blisteringly hot, just warm enough not to need a coat and enjoy the extra evening light. Growing up in America, I remember spending a ridiculous amount of time running around in the evening trying to catch fireflies in a jar. I never want to waste the evening light watching Netflix the way that I do in the winter.

But what to do?

Healthy Summer Evening Ideas:

1. Indulge in a healthier treat.

Leave your heavy desserts behind for the colder months. Dole Peaches in Strawberry Jelly is the perfect dessert sweet treat. Each cup contains a plethora of real fruit pieces. They really pack in the flavour. I usually find jellies a bit bland but this delicious fruit flavoured jelly with sun-ripened fruit pieces is fantastic. The peach is fleshy, juicy with the perfect amount of bite. You don’t want your peach to be too mushy, but you also don’t want it too be tough.

However, if you are feeling slightly more decadent fruit in jelly is a delightful topping for frozen yogurt. And because the jelly is made with xanthan gum and locust bean gum instead of gelatin it is a vegetarian-friendly option.

The Dole Peaches in Strawberry Jelly are also perfect for outdoor eating because they are so portable and convenient by combining real fruit pieces with tasty fruit jelly. If you are interested, you can try them now for £1! The offer can be found here.

2. Sit out with a drink and a portable speaker.

A lot of concerts and festivals are still off the cards so make your own (low-key) concert. A decent portable speaker and a picnic blanket is all you really need. My favourite hyper-refreshing virgin cocktail to make is muddling raspberries with a cup of coconut water, topping it with soda water a sprig of mint and a dash of pink salt.

3. Play a round of boule! (Or you might call it bocce ball).

I am a massive bocce fan. I’m very competitive with it so woe-betide anyone who takes me on. I will play and play until the light is gone completely and I’ve lost my balls in the grass.

4. Eat dinner al fresco.

Long-time readers will know that I take any and all opportunities to eat dinner outside. My favourite outdoor meals are portable and don’t require eating food hot. My ideal meal consists of a black bean salad, sliced baguette, hummus, some Spanish omelet and a summer panzanella.

5. Have an outdoor cinema evening.

During the first lockdown, I nabbed a cheap projector off of Facebook marketplace for under £20. All you need is a white flat sheet, an outdoor electrical socket and an extension lead and you can have your own backyard cinema.

I recommend watching a horror film because there’s nothing like getting the pants scared off of you whilst sitting outside in the dusk.
