I’ve been to Brighton many, many times when I lived in London. But because the train (or most commonly) rail replacement buses back to London were so speedy, I’d never actually spent the night in Brighton, despite some late finishes in the city on occasion.

But when I was looking for somewhere to go away for a quick break for my birthday, Brighton was the obvious contender. In fact, I had been planning on ringing in the new year in Brighton, but due to the lockdown that was all canceled.

But now, I can safely say, Brighton was the most fantastic choice for a city-break.

Eat:

The food scene in Brighton is absolutely fantastic. It’s genuinely one of my favourite things about the city. If you are looking for something upscale, I can firmly recommend Flint House. It’s where I celebrated my birthday meal in style, and I thoroughly recommend it.

If you are in the market for pizza, you must try Fatto o Mano. It’s some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. And as a pizza-obsessive, I really know.

For coffee, visit Pelicano or Between Two Pines. And for brunch you must visit Red Roaster. I have a whole post of Red Roaster coming soon. You also must pop in for pastries at Flour Pot Bakery. If you are in the market for some beverages (who isn’t) try Unbarred Taproom as the best local microbrewery or Bison.

Do:

Of course, you have to go out on Brighton’s famous pier and spend a lot of time on the boardwalk and shore. Of the weather is nice, you need to 100% go for a sea dip. (Or even if the weather isn’t great, if you’re feeling brave.)

I also recommend visiting Brighton Palace and Pavillion. At the museum, there’s currently a Bowie exhibition on but they change regularly.

And if you are a shopping fan, the Laines and all the amazing vintage shops are the best place to spot some great deals and unique buys. Plus for fans of Lucy & Yak there is a brick and mortar shop in the Laines.

It’s a very touristy option, but if you want to see Brighton from above, I recommend taking a sunset flight on the i360 down on the beach. I have another post about it coming soon.

Stay:

I stayed in the Kemptown area which I can’t recommend enough. It’s still close to the centre of two and the shore whilst being affordable. I stayed in the quirkiest little Airbnb (message me if you want the details) but you can find some absolute steals as long as aren’t insistent on staying in a hotel.

What are your favorite things to do in Brighton?
