Travel || Ludlow & Ludlow Castle

Ages ago, when I was in the magical Hay-on-Wye, I made a detour to visit Ludlow. It’s known for its lovely castle and its incredible food scene, so of course, I had to visit! It’s a beautiful and historical market town in Shropshire and I now recommend it to anyone for an England-based staycation!

The town centre is crowned by Ludlow Castle, which I definitely recommend visiting. Tickets are £9 per adult, but they are worth the admittance price to explore the old ruins.

In a way, Ludlow almost reminds me of York. It’s at the convergence of two rivers and the centre of the town is part of the medieval walled city. But instead of having the Yorkshire Moors on your doorstep, in Ludlow you have the Welsh Marches and the beautiful countryside of south Shropshire.

Most people will time their visit with the Ludlow Food and Drink Festival, but in general, the food scene in the town is incredible. Surprisingly, my favourite food was found in a park cafe down by the river. If you are in the area, you must visit CSONS at The Green Cafe. It’s all locally sourced and absolutely fantastic. It’s not a usual occurrence that you can sit in a park by the waterside and eat steaming hot cinnamon rolls and patatas bravas with a fresh aoli.

I can’t wait to revisit Ludlow one day very soon.

Have you ever visited Ludlow?
