What I’ve Been Reading Recently

I am 45 books through my goal of 75 reads this year so I’m on my way and should hit my goal, all being well.

Reading Recently:

Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff
I do enjoy a bit of high fantasy, especially when you add in a dash of horror. Set in a pseudo-medieval England, the sun has gone away and vampires rule Europe. It was absolutely engrossing and I can’t wait for the next in the series to come out.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E Harrow
Whilst this is a fantasy novel what it really is is a love letter to story-telling. I flew through this read.
3 stars

The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson
A lovely YA find that illustrates the dangers of religious fanatacism.
4 stars

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint
Fans of Madeline Miller (Circe, etc) will enjoy Ariadne. It will definitely make you re-think the heroes in Greek stories.
3 stars

Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason
This was lent to me by a friend who insisted I read it. It was beautifully written and followed Martha and her husband in their lives in London and Oxford.
4 stars

Galatea by Madeline Miller
This tiny read can be finished in a quick 30-minute sitting but its length doesn’t undermine its beauty.
3 stars

The Last Graduate by Namoni Novik
The next installment in the Scholomance series was very engaging. The first book had a lot of necessary world-building that paid off in this one.
4 stars

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix
A strange mixture of horror and very tongue-in-cheek. It was surprisingly dark but enjoyable.
3 stars

Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters
A challenging and heartbreaking read centered around a group of women in various stages of their transitions that really makes you think about who you consider family and community.
3 stars

House of Sky and Breathe by Sarah J Maas
I love this Crescent City series. It might be my favourite Maas series. The ending mad my jaw drop!
