ABCs of Spring 2021

No one really knows what this Spring holds. Until a little while ago, I didn’t even know if I’d be doing online teaching for the rest of this term.

I am not being ignorant of the dangers posed by COVID, but instead I am choosing to be optimistic because it’s the only thing that I can do.

So without further ado, here are my:

ABCs of Spring

Alfresco coffee. I’ve taken to having my morning coffee out of the backdoor. But one of my favourite things is having picnics so fingers crossed we can all have some summery picnics together in a few months.

Bake frequently. I haven’t baked much this year so I will make up for it whilst inside.

Clean! I know, I know, I’m very strange but I enjoy a spring clean. And I’ve had a lot of time to do it.

Daylight. I really do feel so much happier the more sun there is.

Easter lunch. I’ll never miss a good excuse to feast! Plus it’s asparagus season. Hooray!

Focus on planning for the summer term. I want to end my NQT year in a strong position.

Getting to spend time outside. Even if it is just my allotted daily exercise time.

Harold time. I was fortunate enough to have Harold for all of January and February so I’m itching to see his little face again.

Immerse myself in enjoying the season. I’m very disappointed by another spring and summer of cancelled gigs and plans so I want to try to eek out the joy.

Join in with more online play readings. I’ve done quite a few now and I am really enjoying them.

Keeping my fingers crossed that my trip to Brighton between the Spring and Summer terms happens.

Lots of time spent outside, soaking up as much sun as possible

May. It’s my birthday month so of course I love it dearly. It will probably be an unusual birthday this year.

Nourish my instagram account and stretch myself creatively. I’ve felt very stagnant lately.

Organise. This goes along with the idea of a spring clean, but I’m a very organised person usually and I get quite the satisfaction out of it.

Planning a summer trip. It will definitely be a UK based holiday but I’d love to get back to Scotland.

Quiet weekend mornings spent cycling to the local village and buying a takeaway coffee.

Running almost every day. I started the habit during the January lockdown and I’d really like to keep it up.

Start listening to more new music. People say that once you hit your late 20s – early 30s you don’t discover any new music and I’d like to avoid that stereotype.

Take better care of myself. Some self care and indulgence is needed.

Unplug and have a phone free weekend. I’ve been particularly attached to my phone during the winter lockdown and I need to stop doom scrolling.

Vaccination? Is it too much to hope that teachers might get vaccinated soon?

Watch some theatre. Or a gig. I’m keeping my fingers firmly crossed for this.

Xylophone Spring Band Concert, Northamptonshire edition, solo via ZOOM.

Yoga. Like running, I’ve had time to get into my yoga practise again. Thank you Yoga with Adriene.

Zzz. Catch up on some sleep that was sorely lacking from my winter schedule.

What are you planning to do this spring? Anything big that you are looking forward to? (Other than being able to go out again sometime soon.)
