ABCs of Spring

Here’s to the oddest ABCs of Spring post (Coronavirus Edition). I was torn between writing a very optimistic list, with things hopefully we’ll be able to go out and about to go, or a list that is very home-based (and probably more lockdown realistic). In the end, I decided to go with realism, but I’m still an optimist at heart.

ABCs of Spring

Alfresco coffee. I’ve taken to having my morning coffee out of the backdoor. But one of my favourite things is having picnics so fingers crossed we can all have some summery picnics together in a few months.

Bake frequently. I haven’t baked much this year so I will make up for it whilst inside.

Clean! I know, I know, I’m very strange but I enjoy a spring clean. And I’ve had a lot of time to do it.

Daylight. I really do feel so much happier the more sun there is.

Easter lunch. I’ll never miss a good excuse to feast! Plus it’s asparagus season. Hooray!

Focus on getting my last PGCE written assignment down. 2 down, 1 to go! (And it’s due on my birthday! Shock and horror!)

Getting to spend time outside. Even if it is just my allotted daily exercise time.

Home deliveries of some of my favourite goodies: Pastries from Flori Bakery, fruit and veg from Riverford, and bread from Bluebird Bakery.

Immerse myself in a new pursuit. Or an old one: like re-learning the piano.

Join in with an online class: I’m going to do Yale’s The Science of Well-Being

Keep the house filled with fresh flowers.

Lots of time spent in the sunshine, hopefully with friends, but if not, just out in my little concrete backyard space.

May. It’s my birthday month so of course I love it dearly. It will probably be an unusual birthday this year.

Nourish my instagram account and stretch myself creatively.

Organise. This one kind of goes in hand in hand with cleaning, never before has my home been so organised. With lots of charity, Depop and rubbish piles.

Planning trips to new places. I was supposed to be in Bordeaux this week, and that trip obviously was canceled and I haven’t been on another holiday or trip in ages so I’m desperate for one.

Quiet mornings with Harold with no telly on, coffee in hand and sunlight streaming through the window.

Running in the evening and still having sunlight for it. The lockdown has really solidified my running practise again.

Sow some seeds. I’d like to get some window planters going of basic herbs, lettuce, tomatoes and, of course, geraniums.

Take better care of myself. Some self care and indulgence is needed.

Unplug more often and spend some entire weekends away from my phone. I’ve spent far too much time scrolling. Especially on twitter with news updates so I’ve started limiting myself.

Virtual dates and catchups with friends over Facetime and Skype.

Watch something good. My latest obsession was ‘Tiger King’ but I can’t wait for the next season of ‘Killing Eve’.

Xylophone Spring Band Concert, York edition, solo.

Yoga. Like running, I’ve had time to get into my yoga practise again. Thank you Yoga with Adriene.

Zzz. Catch up on some sleep that was sorely lacking from my winter schedule.

What are you planning to do this spring? Anything big that you are looking forward to? (Other than being able to go out again sometime soon.)
