I’ve long admired pieces from Joanie Clothing, so when they got in touch to work with me, I was absolutely over the moon! I’ve had my eye on their “Everyday Brunch Club” tee-shirt since it burst onto the scene several years ago.
Since hugely reducing my wardrobe and eliminating pieces that just sit around and never get worn, I cast a quick eye over what I currently owned to help me select items that I knew would 100% be worn in the future. A quick once-over provided some obvious observations: one that I only really wear blues, greys, blacks and whites with the occasional green. Just narrowing my clothing search down to those colours was hugely helpful in identifying items that I’ll wear in the future.
The next step was that I looked at the type of clothing I wear and its silhouette. I gravitate towards jeans paired with simple tees and sweatshirts and very simple dresses preferably with pockets and fairly loose in nature (swing dresses, fit and flare, etc). There’s nothing particularly figure-hugging, fussy, ruffled, pleated, metallic or otherwise complicated in my wardrobe.
Most Joanie clothing fits into that category, so I luckily still had a plethora of clothing to choose from. I absolutely adore their fun tees and slogan shirts. I had to narrow my choices down from a list of about 15 (no exaggeration) other items.
I opted for the Barb Green Floral Tea Dress because it’s an item that is seasonally transitional and I prefer a minimal wardrobe year round versus different capsule wardrobes per season. The weather in Yorkshire is so finicky that I can go from wearing a thick jumper to a sun-dress in the span of a day, so only my thickest of winter coats gets put away for the summer. The dress is the perfect weight for wearing in the summer, and will look super cute with tights, ankle boots and a cardigan later in the year. Plus I loved that it was named the “Barb” dress because as every “Stranger Things” fan knows… #justiceforBarb
For my other item, I had to go with what drew me to Joanie Clothing originally all those years ago. A brunch club shirt. But as I have quite a few awesome tees, I opted for it in the sweatshirt variety. I chose grey because it fits in with everything else in my wardrobe making it infinitely wearable with many, many things. But the Etheline Brunch Club Sweatshirt also comes in a lovely soft pink (a ‘millennial pink’, could I dare to say?). The sweatshirt is fleece-lined and it is so incredibly soft that I know that I’ll be living in it once the heat wave is over for good. (AKA when it is autumn.)
